for HIS family.
What we have going on here is a Palin-i-zation of the "facts" surrounding yet another "quirky republican "birth story".
A "true-believer" like he professes to be, would have insisted on antibiotics for his "feverish" wife, not oxytocin to deliberately hasten the birth of a non-viable (and "damaged" fetus).
According to the stories I have heard, she was "desperately ill", yet returned home with the aborted fetus in time to "introduce the baby to the kids and to sleep with it.
At 20 weeks, she would have probably a recent ultrasound that probably exposed the trisomy18.
I do not criticize their CHOICE, but I do wonder why he is so damned adamant about denying OTHERS that same CHOICE.
The creepiness of taking the child home could well have been "penance" for their deed, and a way to justify what they had done.
Of course, no when ANYONE dares to mention anything about this event, they are called to the carpet to apologize for intruding into a deeply hurtful and private family sorrow.
The Palin effect is well in force here. Both have USED the event as a way to garner sympathy and money (Mrs Rick wrote about it in a book), and both know that doctor-patient confidentiality prevents any real vetting of their cockamamie stories.
They are both free to say whatever they think will "fly" and then claim to be hurt and shocked when anyone questions their story or wants more information.
They like the money and attention, but they allow NO questioning.
The abortion issue for them is a large part of what endears them to their minions, and they know full-well that if they were exposed for the frauds they may well be, their careers (and the gravytrain) would be over

(386 posts)I'm convinced it was an abortion to save the life of his wife but knowing how bad that would look for his political career, the Santorums did all they could to portray the "grieving parents".
I'm surprised they didn't video themselves holding the fetus and screaming, "Look at us! No abortion here! See? We love this dead baby! Watch how much we love it! Num num num!"
I mean, holy shit. I've known people who've had miscarriages and NONE of them have ever taken the fetus home with them, let alone sleep with it or force their other kids to hold it.
Has anyone here every heard ANYONE doing this insanity before the Santorums?

She apparently roused from her near death experience in time to take the fetus home with her..
seems to me that a doctor worth much would have insisted on hospitalizing her..
When I delivered my 3rd child, I was kept in the hospital for FOUR days afterwards because I was sick when he was born.. My doctor was worried about my health enough to NOT let me go home.
They are "safe" because they can Palinize their story knowing that no one can ever really verify it.

(21,691 posts)The doctors said they were talking about a matter of hours or a day or two before risking sepsis and both of them might die, Santorum said. Obviously, if it was a choice of whether both Karen and the child are going to die or just the child is going to die, I mean its a pretty easy call.
