A couple of things. First, I live in NYC. I am a tenant and have a landlord. They have suspended mortgage payments, so that landlords can let the rent slide for April.
However, I am still worried that my landlord will need the rent from me, because her house is paid for. Suspending mortgages does nothing for her. They need to do something about her $5,000 a year property taxes. Will they be doing it?
She might say "Pay me back later." But making up a whole month (or more) of rent is staggering to me. The government needs to order rent waived for April, at least to those who have lost their jobs or have had their hours severely cut.

As for taxes, in most places property taxes are paid either quarterly, semi-annually or annually (here in NC). I belive NY pays quarterly, which means a landlord would have until the end of May to pay 2nd quarter taxes

(15,385 posts)She's wonderful but cheap. She's not gonna throw me out, but even if NY says not to take rent money, she's gonna still say "You just got that $1,000. Can you please give me a third or half of the rent? You can give me the rest later."
She's never going to say "just skip April" unless they suspend her property taxes a Verizon, her gas/electric/water companies all say that April is on them. Only then will she say April free, if that. My $1,000 check is gone before it even came.

The taxes take my entire monthly check, twice a year.
