Will have to pay some (Hubby and I are both sole proprietors), but not too bad. And nothing to the state (see previous note--Ohio is generous to small businesses).

who have to go to a tax-preparer to have their returns done, if these businesses/organizations are even open during this social distancing time?

5. My tax preparer lives 250 miles away, so we do our taxes via the USPS.

We owe the Feds $3. State taxes are $0.

might have trouble getting their returns done because of the shelter-in-place rules. More specifically, there are low-income seniors who use seniors services to do their returns and these organizations are often closed due to the shelter-in-place rules. (There are a couple of them, seniors, on my block.)

4. Just file for an extension. It's one form, and easy to fill out.

Since there are no penalties for late payment, file and pay on July 15, or earlier. I'll wait for my $1000 check or maybe two of them, if they send them to individuals. $2000 would cover it.

I haven't filed on April 15 for years. We're self-employed and never have what we owe in April. Property taxes are due, too, so...
