California just issued a "Stay at home order" for all residents

California is on lockdown

Live updates: California governor issues statewide stay-at-home order; Confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. doubled in two days

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2020/03/19/coronavirus-latest-news/

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) issued a statewide stay-at-home order starting Thursday evening. “This is a moment we need to make tough decisions," Newsom said at an online news conference. It is the strongest statewide restriction yet aimed at stemming the spread of the coronavirus. The announcement follows similar orders issued in the past few days across the San Francisco Bay area and Los Angeles.

Prevent Bay Area people from coming up to the mountains to "get away" from it all.

We actually had a local resort imply that in a marketing campaign and the locals went off on them...Our Hospital literally has 110 beds for a population of 20K

Nationwide, the number of confirmed cases is doubling every 2.5 days. 8 weeks is 22 doublings that’s more than enough for the whole country to be infected, but, as more people get the disease there are fewer people to infect so the rate will slow as we get closer to 50% of the population having or having had the virus.

The same system that failed miserably in Paradise worked like a charm.

Governor Newsom is speaking on the television right now, and Boy howdy, he's totally doing it, delivering the unvarnished truth in a very calm reassuring way!

That yahoo sitting in the White House could learn a thing or two about leadership from a leader who knows how to lead....but I won't hold my breath.

He gave a fantastic speech/talk. Sounds like he has everything covered with some good partners. Good for California. We are always first.

Not understanding how Newsom ordered people to stay at home and then say it is OK to go out at the same time.

you also get to make the rules and qualifications.
If your point is that this not an iron clad quarantine order .. you're correct.

People are being instructed to proscribe their behaviors .. greatly .. with certain common sense exceptions provided for. Could the rules laid down be more stringent and draconian? Of course. Would they then work better .. or lead to more favorable outcomes? Debatable.

Everyone is required to stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job. If you go out, keep at least 6 feet of distance.

Those that work in critical sectors should go to work. Grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and more will stay open.

The Governor says he expects this order to last two months or more.

While there's talk about taking care of the poor for whom a $1200 payment would be a big help, it's not nearly enough for those who make more and have more expenses. Most CA mortgages are far more than that and we'll have to cover at least two months worth.

Worse, there may not be jobs to go back to. My husband says the company he works for can't stay in business if everyone is out that long. The company has a suite of offices and lots of insurance to pay, such as insurance , healthcare premiums etc.

So we could lose our healthcare too.

Our son who lives with us works at a theater that closed yesterday. He was still at work today doing back office work, but now probably won't be able to even do that and could be laid off.

Unemployment is a fraction of our household expenses.

One GOOD thing that happened today though -- hubby surprised me with a special delivery of a freezer he ordered online! He and our son went shopping tonight and stocked up on food. So now we don't have to worry about heading out to crowded grocery stores for weeks at a time....provided we can find toilet paper somewhere, that is.
