is the idea that the Governors and Mayors will take steps which actually are effective in reducing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic before November to the point where it is no longer a main topic on the "damn liberal media" and the Moron in Chief takes the credit. We know that he would do that. If that happens, we could well be facing a second term of a man obviously unqualified to hold the office, but memories are short.

(25,183 posts)on who they blame for it. Trump's doing everything he can to blame it on the Chinese, and I think he has an outside chance of making it stick.

(1,977 posts)What worries me are the people that have been snooping into our power grids. If an enemy sabotages our power grid or even just fucks with it at the height of this we are cooked.
This scares the ever living shit out of me

(53,410 posts)And many of those will have gotten the corona virus, so those wont be voting for him.
If the red states dont take the necessary steps to minimize the effects of the virus a whole lot of their citizens are going to die.
His base is probably the most vulnerable just because of willful ignorance.
He wont get elected.

(2,042 posts)The politics will be litigated at the appropriate time. I dont think thats going to go particularly well for Trump and the GOP but as was the case before this crisis well still need to get out and vote.

In any case, whoever does whatever, I want this under control.
We win by making it clear that progressive policies are the ONLY way to effectively deal with the massive economic fallout.
Starting with the fact this nation must institute a significant wealth tax. It is an investment in rebuilding wealth.
Sure, we're going to come out of this with our nation's combined assets much diminished. However, a lions share of those assets will still remain in the hands of the top 10% in terms of wealth.
If those folks want a shot at recouping losses, they've got to make a BIG investment in getting the economy moving. And they need to continue making a meaningful investment going forward, so we come out of this with a FAR more healthy distribution of wealth and income earning potential.
It is for their own benefit.
We all need to pull together and do our bit -- with those who are the most fortunate, making the most substantial contribution.
Where corporate bailouts are needed, they'll be needed. Businesses that have actually benefited need to be investing a REAL fair share of their profits in strengthening the nation FROM THE BOTTOM UP. But the most immediate action needs to be a wealth tax that has a shot at beginning to offset the massive deficit spending needed to keep us afloat.
Dollars in the hands of the 30% at the bottom get "multiplied" as they are spent and support businesses, who in turn spend, and on and on.

(9,078 posts)deaths and a total collapse of the economy and the rule of law. That Trump takes credit for the work of others is of less concern to me than avoiding what could be the worst event in American history.

(3,401 posts)The economy will not recover by November, will continue to bleed jobs, likely 1 million deaths an exhausted and depleted healthcare system, and both Wall Street and American Public screaming for help.....I bet that he drops out, resigns before Election Day to save humiliation.
