Her Facebook Friends Asked If Anyone Was Actually Sick. She Had an Answer.
The only thing that should have been different about the first Friday in March was the apple crisp. Heaven Frilot didnt usually cook at the end of the workweek, instead letting her family snack on leftovers a roast or pork chops shed made earlier, maybe or order pizza. But her 10-year-old son, Ethan, was having a friend over that night, and her husband, Mark, a lawyer, was coming off a crushing week of arbitration. She would bake an apple crisp.
Then Mark Frilot 45 years old, never, ever sick, came home with a fever.
In the haze of days that followed, Frilot, a 43-year-old oil-and-gas analyst, occupied one world, the rest of her community in Kenner, Louisiana, another. She saw her friends making jokes on social media about the coronavirus eye-roll emojis, Fox News talking points, Rush Limbaugh quotes writing off the threat. And then one person asked if anyone really had this thing.
Frilot had an answer to that.
I have been seeing a lot of posts about people taking this virus lightly and joking about it, she began in a Facebook post. Mark has tested positive for the coronavirus.

(5,123 posts)Will they still vote for him? All in the name of owning the libs or whatever bullshit excuse they have for supporting Trump. He has now put you, his very supporters, you the people that have been cheering him on, he has put your lives and the lives of your loved ones in danger. What do you think of him now? I would really like to ask these folks that question.

(31,261 posts)They tend to be well off. The woman who the story was about is a longterm oil industry analyst and her sick husband is a corporate attorney.

(7,411 posts)Very familiar with the local culture and the story captured it well. Our society generally views attorneys as being pretty smart but his political blindness and perspective on science doesn't reflect as much.

(53,061 posts)Withe Mardi Gras and a weak state government it could soon pass WA and compete with NY & CA with total number of deaths.
LA hospital system could be swamped in 3 weeks.
Edited to add that they suspect that he became infected at a Mardi Gras parade, incredibly reckless.

(7,411 posts)You don't know how people here lose their minds over Mardi Gras. Many feel it's as important as life itself.
I watched people going into those crowds at the parades and just shook my head. I knew COVID-19 was on its way and wondered how many there might not see next Mardi Gras.
