wide and a micron deep. Yet these same people will be wanting bailouts when the tourist biz collapses.
Almost all diagnosed cases in Hawaii are from island residents returning home NOT visitors.

(90,556 posts)...as an awful lot of DUers really don't see Hawaiians as a distinct people with their own vulnerabilities, culture, concerns, and thoughts. Tourism may be the biggest employer, but -- no, they don't exist merely to entertain you (nor, in reference to earlier battles here, to unquestioningly turn over an important cultural site to "science" ) .
Do I think tourists should go home in the current crisis? I think they should definitely consider it for their own health, don't you?
Another sad tale of our expansion as a nation, for even worse reasons than our own west, GREED CAPITALISM.
On Jan. 17, 1893, Hawaii's monarchy was overthrown when a group of businessmen and sugar planters forced Queen Liliuokalani to abdicate. The coup led to the dissolving of the Kingdom of Hawaii two years later, its annexation as a U.S. territory and eventual admission as the 50th state in the union.

(2,113 posts)Having spent a lot of time on the coast of Maine during the summer over the past 20+ years, I often see a bumper sticker, often on a pickup truck, reading "If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?" I also recall when I was in Hawaii in the early 1970's, the locals were often hostile to the tourists and military personnel there. We were called, "haoles", a derogatory term for non Hawaiians.

"Fucking haole" was decidely hostile.
