FLIPPABLE: Adam Ericson for NC-HD20

Adam grew up in New York state, the son of a single mother. Adam and his brother took on a lot of responsibility at a young age to help their mother, who worked in a restaurant as a waitress.
Adam was fortunate to attend high performing public schools in New York State. The son of a single mother who worked in restaurants, Adam and his younger brother took on a lot of responsibility at a young age. He earned an academic scholarship to Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva New York where he received a degree in Russian Area Studies.

He completed a semester of language immersion study at Middlebury College. In 2019 Adam received his Master’s in Art of Teaching from UNCW. Go Seahawks!

What Adam understood then is that hard work was not enough. He needed a community and a government willing to invest in his future.

How?

By supporting strong, high performing public schools and honoring the work of the teachers who built them. By giving him an opportunity to pursue a college degree despite being from a working-class family.
By empowering him to see a future unhindered by socioeconomic status.

Today he teaches and coaches at New Hanover High School. Adam and his wife moved to Wilmington with their two young children in 2005 from Maryland. They wanted to live in a smaller community near the beach. What they found in Wilmington, was home.

They fell in love with the community and the natural environment.

Adam converted to Catholicism in 2014 and found that the doctrine of Catholic service became a critical guide in his life. In addition to his years of work as a teacher and a coach, Adam has volunteered for Meals on Wheels through St. Mark Catholic Church for over five years.

Adam recognizes the critical role that government plays in our lives. As citizens, we have a responsibility to participate and give back. He endeavors to do both.
