What did Trump mean when he said this, about (hydroxy)chloroquine?

"Without saying too much, I am probably more of a fan of that than may be than anybody. But I am a big fan." (emphasis mine, obviously)

You know what might make me a big fan, more than anybody, of an off-patent drug that I have no financial interest in? If I had tried the drug and found it had worked for me, that's what.

I've been pondering this for several days now, because I cannot understand how, given his extreme carelessness in exposing himself and not practicing any social distancing, and his obvious risk factors, that he is not gasping for breath on a ventilator.

This post isn't about all of the issues surrounding that drug, because I'm aware there are serious repercussions ongoing for patients who currently depend on it for other indications, who are now having to face shortages. Hopefully production increases, that are underway, will address that. I'm merely looking at WHY he suddenly became such a huge fan, and why he worded it the way he did.

6. I think he is desperate

for a win in this pandemic. He knows that with the chaos ensuing us, his re-election chances are starting to look grim. He can't go after Biden the way he would like to right now. He wants to make himself a hero to say look what I did, I was the one responsible for a cure.
He is impulsive, has never been known to give anything careful thought. Hence the trail of failed businesses. So he's heard that this drug has some potential and he's ready to
push for it so he can take credit.

but if it is a quinine based drug, growing up in India, my mother gave us quinine pills to combat suspected malaria.
So I am now drinking carbonated quinine water just as an added precaution.

"Malaria is neither a bacterial or viral disease, it is caused by a parasite which belongs to the genus plasmodium, and has many species such as vivax , falciparum , ovale and malariae which are common in India."

10. He needs a miracle treatment now. There is no down side to touting it to give people

hope in his mind. His pushing for it will make it look like he got it done. If it's a flop and or kills people, oh well. Something either happens to make this go away, or he's toast. He may even think he can demand miracles with the equipment, treatments and vaccine, and they will materialize. I doubt it though.

12. I wonder if Trump knows anyone over at Rising Pharmaceuticals,

the New Jersey-based company that is the sole producer of this drug in the US? They have an interesting history. I wonder if they have any connection to Trump or any of his Mar-a-Lago cronies?

16. Hydroxychloroquine is manufactured by other companies

The generic ones I take daily are made by Northstar located in Memphis, Tennessee. There are also other worldwide manufacturers.

I am really concerned about shortages as I need this drug to control my Lupus, an autoimmune disorder that can be fatal. This isn't a drug I can stop taking or take at a lower dosage.

I wonder if Trump is a "big fan" because they gave him the drug as a preventative since he had been in contact with people who had the coronavirus.
