Nigeria Has Chloroquine Poisonings After Trump Praised Drug

Nigeria reported two cases of chloroquine poisoning after U.S. President Donald Trump praised the anti-malaria drug as a treatment for the novel coronavirus.

Health officials are warning Nigerians against self-medicating after demand for the drug surged in Lagos, a city that’s home to 20 million people. Two people were hospitalized in Lagos for chloroquine overdoses, Oreoluwa Finnih, senior health assistant to the governor of Lagos, said in an interview.

She said via text message: “Chloroquine is still in a testing phase in combination with other medication and not yet verified as a preventive treatment or curative option.” Nigeria’s Centre for Disease Control warned that the World Health Organization hasn’t approved use of the drug against the virus.

Trump said Thursday that chloroquine and its less-toxic cousin hydroxychloroquine had shown “tremendous promise” to treat the new illness. The president doubled down on Saturday, telling his Twitter followers that hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin “taken together” could be “one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.” He urged they “be put in use IMMEDIATELY.”

That goes without saying, especially now. My ears automatically turn him off when they hear his voice. I think my self defense mechanism is stepping up. His voice is like the teacher in Charlie Brown specials. Whah, whaa whaa.

Because he's incompetent, and cares little about public safety now publicly should be criminal. It also shows the American people shouldn't trust him on anything he says , as his lying on this shows he should not be in office .

The entire supply may be bought up by frantic, ill-informed people desperate for a "cure."

I foresee so much of it going into the black markets there won't be any left even for the researchers seeking to test its efficacy on CV19.

I'm just so tired of piling up reason upon reason to hate that man.

I'm so sorry, I hope this doesn't effect your wife. What Trump did was ignorant and cruel, and he did it just to score points with his supporters, especially Hannity. I've been so worried about my husband too. Medical supplies are running out at the hospital he works at, and there aren't enough masks, gloves, equipment or test kits, either. They are trying to make do. We keep hearing more are suppose to be coming, but we have see nothing, it's vital to protect the patients and health care workers. I hate Trump so much.

If he would stop playing doctor and let door experts do their job we wouldn't be in this mess.

...is just another insidious but "feel good" way to be anti-science.

Search for "anthropogenic climate change" in the conservative media for another example.
