(35,293 posts)Mostly psychological. "Gee, last month was that COVID-19? Inquiring minds." For most, that's the extent of it.
For others that have to work with it it'll show if there' some immunity already there. Or that they should be extra-careful.
You develop antibodies late in the game, so the PCR test is better if you're symptomatic.
Mostly it'll be really handy for answering some basic questions. Pick 15000 Americans at random and have them fill out a questionnaire, basically asking if they had COVID symptoms. Then find out if they had the disease. It'll give us a bunch of data that'll finally give us some answers--extent of spread, % asymptomatic, mortality, long(er) time consequences.

(11,791 posts)I always get a flu shot and have never had the flu as an adult. It started with a horrific cough that lasted a solid month. 103 fever for a couple days. I don't run fevers either (even when I get strep, which has happened yearly since I was a kid). I felt like death.

(16,999 posts)One treatment protocol is to give plasma with covid anti-bodies but there hasnt been a test for the anti-bodies This would allow huge numbers of people to be tested. Ive donated plasma before and you can do it twice a week. They say one donation would be split between two patients. This could really get the ball rolling on that.
