Trump Wants Control of Economic Rescue Funds

Trump Wants Control of Economic Rescue Funds

"SNIP......

“Congressional lawmakers are feuding over a central component of the massive economic relief package being debated by the Senate, a battle that may threaten the enormous emergency aid package while reprising one of the most bitter political fights of the last decade,” the Washington Post reports.

“The Trump administration and Senate Republicans have called for giving the Treasury Department the authority to disburse hundreds of billions of dollars in emergency federal loans to firms hurt by the economic impact of the coronavirus.”

“Congressional Democrats have demanded the legislation include guardrails to prevent firms who receive the emergency aid from firing their workers or stripping them of their health care… They also are balking at giving Mnuchin so much authority to determine which firms receive the assistance.”

......SNIP"

Maybe they want to dole out more to red state Trump voters. Isn't the power of the purse with Congress?

1. This sounds like it's about companies, not people

The Dems want to prohibit companies from using the money to buy back stock, as the airlines did in 2009. I'm sure the R's are balking at any restrictions at all.

3. Giving the most corrupt president in history a trillion in cash to hand out with no oversight?

The results of that are going to be entirely predictable. Nancy Pelosi would NEVER agree to anything like that.

6. I gather your argument is based on the amount, as opposed to the principle?

"The children come first. At the end of the day, we have to make sure that the resources needed to protect the children are available," she wrote. "In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill. As we pass the Senate bill, we will do so with a Battle Cry as to how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth."

8. I'm all for sending emergency aid to working people instead of a top down bailout.

Here's what I'm disturbed by: from what I've read about the Republican proposal there is upwards of a trillion dollars that would be handed out at the discretion of the administration with no congressional control. That's not acceptable and equivalent to giving Trump a blank check to give away taxpayer money to allies, big business and even himself.

I can't envision Pelosi allowing that to happen.

Wait until the Corporate Media, IQ45, and all the Puke Congresscritters start relentlessly attacking Democrats in the House for 'playing politics with people's lives and the economy' for not passing the Senate Bill ... which probably at least one Blue Dog will vote for, so they'll call it the 'Bipartisan Senate Bill'.

And when there's $3000 checks per family dangled in front of the the US public?

What do you think's going to happen?

Same thing that happened with 'the children'.

I hope you're right, for the record.

Followed by GOP Congresscritter donors.

There's no question whatsoever that's how it will work under these grifters.

How about some kind of New Deal to put the soon to be millions of unemployed to work. Maybe with a focus on infrastructure and Green energy. Hmmm. I wonder what we could call it.
