We are seeing why having a businessman as President or Governor is a bad idea.

Businessmen are always worried about making money. Like Trump, our TN Gov is more worried about the economy than the health of the citizens. Compare KY with TN- Beshear locked down quickly while Bill Lee is still trying to avoid a statewide lockdown. KY has a fraction of COVID-19 cases that TN has. The problem is as long as this virus is running rampant the economy will continue to sink.

Trump cut the Pandemic Response Team because it's what decades of unchallenged Koch / Heritage talking points have led to. They want to literally cut every unnecessary government expenditure from the books. Unless it's one they can profit off of.

ALL profiteering with govt. needs to end and execute every last one of the greedy assholes for treason?

Without that, this just keeps going?

Just 1 at the top now looks really stupid, eh?

a shyster, a con. He doesn't have the ability to do anything else, so he steals, and lies. Giving these people any validity galls me.

There is a fundamental difference between running a business and governing. The focus on business is to make money. There are some business people who take care of their employees and run sustainable models and work to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders, but the bottom line in business is the bottom line, especially in a publicly traded company in which the shareholders return is paramount.

Government is about (or should be) meeting the needs of the most constituents possible and it often means competing priorities. It is necessary for business to succeed as it drives the economy, but there are things that people need and should have as a right. There is a lot of conflict in government and the President is not the CEO, but the chief public servant. In charge of promoting the general welfare, insuring domestic tranquility, providing for common defense, etc... which can be at odds at times. Government is infinitely more complicated than business. Business oriented people are ill equipped to govern.

I guess Truman's clothing shop did OK, and Carter's peanut business did fine, but:
Grant went broke as a store owner. Administration rife with corruption & crony capitalism.
This dolt declared BKO 6 times.
Hoover was an avowed free marketeer who avoided government intervention to stave off the Depression.
The trick is getting a businessman man who was actually good at business, then had enough money to start thinking of others.

we have a businessman for a governor and he's doing a pretty OK job. He's a Democrat, but I didn't vote for him because I thought he was a Republican in sheep's clothing. However, he's been as on top of this as anybody can be and started shutting down my hot spot county pretty early on. He has been a leader, although doesn't seem to get the same press as CA and NY do. He did get ahead of himself when he said to shut down all but life-sustaining businesses and then had to delay enforcement until some adjustments were made, but if that's the worst mistake he makes in this mess, he's doing OK. I certainly wouldn't want to be handling this basically uncontrollable situation.
