** Worker's compensation insurers may not appreciate paying health care bills for COVID - 19 deemed work related. The worker sues for the $275K ICU bill.

** Customers might hold service industries liable if a family goes to a restaurant the wait staff is sick and coughing - then the whole family comes down with COVID - 19 and grandma & grandpa both die three weeks later of pneumonia. The work place gets sued.

** A retail clerk calls in sick with a bad fever. The boss says you come in and work today or you are fired. She blacks out on the 1/2 drive into work and has a head on collision. The work place gets sued.

They know that they cannot win democratically, so they have abandoned democracy. We are no longer the opposition to them, we are the enemy, and they don't recognize our right to share power or even to exist. Hence Merrick Garland, Trump and the GOP using ICE as a weapon against "sanctuary cities", using the tax code to penalize taxpayers in blue states, withholding disaster relief from PR and CA, threatening a federal government takeover of San Francisco (even though he has no authority to do so), etc. This is just the latest example and it does not surprise me one bit that Trump will try to weaponize this crisis against blue states and their inhabitants. The media has been all too willing to play along with the characterization of rural/conservative people as the "real" Americans and the resulting devaluation of liberals as citizens whose voices matter.

Trump will be gone eventually but there is likely no way to fix the divide because the GOP has no interest in fixing it. They want to eliminate us -- politically, or by other means -- period. Frankly, I don't think that the U.S. will continue to exist as one nation of 50 states for much longer.

It doesn't get any bluer than New York City.

You don't want to be there right now. As Mayor de Blasio has said, NYC is the epicenter of COVID-19 in the United States. It's the most densely populated city in the country, I think.

In fact, my wife and I have decamped to our mountain house for several weeks, at least. Unfortunately, it's located in a rural and red part of Pennsylvania!

We are a very off state. Lots of bright blue and lots of bright red. Pretty well evenly divided.

We also have lots of old folks. I’m not thinking that next Friday he say ‘we’re all good, back to normal’.

Because he barely won vs a weak candidate.

The Villages and the other republican dominated retirement area are the only thing keeping republicans in power. They keep coming in faster than they die. If CV rages thru there it will change the politics in this state.

The deaths are a feature, not a bug.

Call me nuts, but he is genuinely evil and cruel. The sadism is who he is. The deaths are a symbol of his power. And if he can make people die in blue states and live in red states, what power that is. And if it doesn’t work out that way, he will say it does. Reality is what he says it is. Again, what is mire powerful than that?

Like the state where I live: South Carolina. The governor is one of Trump's biggest bootlickers. He's doing very little to stop the spread of this virus, and when he does act, it's usually "close the barn door after the horses are out" sort of stuff. It's some of the mayors and city councils who are shutting things down, and these asshole governors wait two days before they declare anything. The only saving grace is that the population isn't as dense here. Not sure that is going to help much, though.

The populations of the southern states tend to be older, poorer and in worse health than the rest of the US; most of those states have rejected Medicaid expansion, and many rural hospitals have closed. To make matters worse, they have more Trump supporters who are less likely to take the virus seriously.

A heavier toll in blue states could be linked to the population density of more big cities. Red or rural states will be hit also but there is less density of population. The economic fallout cannot and shouldn't be assigned a team color. Suffering is human.
