Put his imprimatur on whatever uptick in cases and deaths would follow?

Not gonna happen. He'll squawk a little more about it, but unless others step forward to support this (indeed, only if the Governors act to end the policy), Trump won't do squat.

It’s possibly a political ploy so he can proclaim in November that the economy would’ve been fine if Americans hadn’t been subjected to “Coronavirus hysteria”.

He won’t have evidence, just his usual bluster.

so yeah, he'll try to wheedle his way by and claim it would have all been different if only people had listened to him, but he certainly won't step forward and take responsibility.

people to put pressure on governors if they are willing to sacrifice people vs. jobs. There will be a significant portion of most states who will at some point say enough is enough. How significant a portion will be determined by how tired of shutdown people become.

If economy is still bad in November -- which is likely -- but virus deaths have slowed, trump can say he tried to get the economy moving earlier, but governors, Democrats, or whoever he wants to blame it on, said no. Who knows how people will respond at polls.

The others can work from home, if necessary.

California and New York are both critical zones in supply chains (and perhaps Washington state as well) for many resources that supply red and blue states with goods.

So, his irrational meddling with lives and the economy might be somewhat empty suit......
