I think the production was actually designed to be a parallel of Trumpism, a subtle warning of the dangers ahead. Too late.

Especially the first two-thirds. The problem with it is that Roth wanted a happy ending, so it's a bit contrived.

I think what was prophetic was how a celebrity like Lindberg could be elected with practically zero substance in his campaign. He would just fly in on his plane and talk about staying out of the war. Crazy.

Lindberg was an interesting character. If his son had not been brutally murdered which subsequently lead to his wife's spiral into alcoholism, he probably would have run for president.
