General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIs ANYONE else getting worried about the Supply Chain....
From Farm to Delivery to Store to Table.
From Product to Deliver to Store to Table.
From Letter Creation to Envelope with Stamp to Truck to Mail Processing to Mail Delivery to Home.
Each of these Supply Chains are being impacted by the Human Element catching this plague.
We need to PROTECT the Supply Chain by....
Nationwide Lockdown. Planes stop moving with anything but Cargo and Special Incidents (Congress for instance).
Tests NOW. To test who have COVID-19 Antibodies to support the Supply Chain.
The removal of Trump - immediately. 25th Amendment Yesterday.
We are headed towards a cliff. But --- there is a way to STOP IT. We have to Accept Realities and Take Action.

(51,584 posts)Wait until they can't work. Andrew Zimmern was asked about this and he said it will happen (food supply from the farms).

(35,296 posts)But a lot of that is things like artichokes and almonds, not truly essential foods. I don't know the last time I ate a plum.
It does produce most of the US production of things like broccoli and carrots. Lots of tomatoes, but in many cases Mexico also produces a lot.
But so much in terms of most stables like wheat, beans, or even meat, for all the giant cattle production facilities east of Ontario. ("Ranches"? No. Cattle production facilities.)

(3,266 posts)incident where 50 employees walked out of a chicken processing facility, due to several coworkers testing positive. Im quite worried about those things - food, trash, mail, power, internet.

(46,166 posts)I'm concerned. So we've shopped to take care of that. And frankly I wish we bought a generator after one of the 14 times we discussed it in years past.
But if things get as bad as your concerns there will be more serious issues going on.

(10,885 posts)underestimated all the ramifications of our changing world situation. I've had some real head banging moments of late when a question such as yours is posted.
I may just take to my bed and pull the covers over my head for a very long while.

(14,489 posts)Should our trucking system become overwhelmed and many drivers taken down by the virus, perhaps special trains could run cross-country to maintain crucial supply. Traffic on train systems should be light now due to economic slowdown.
The train system should be far less susceptible to effects of the disease......

(30,733 posts)In many areas, tracks have been neglected for years. They have not been used at all.
Will workers be willing to go out to do this?

(6,797 posts)Doctors are writing prescriptions for people in case they get the Trump virus. Now they're hoarding it. I take this for lupus, I need this medicine. Will it be hard to get and will the price be outrageous? I hope not.

(5,555 posts)All sorts of components, especially in electronics, are globally sourced.
It means for the economy to revive, it takes more than just the US beating it.
Imagine a car company doing assembly here using engines from Canada, transmissions from Mexico, seats from China, computers from Germany, etc etc. A lingering shut down of one of those countries means that car company still can't make cars.
This is just an example, anything complex (consumer electronics, kitchen appliances, industrial machinery, etc) has the same kind of global supply chain.
