Radical right wing broadcaster John Bernstein issues call to cancel 2020 election

Radical right-wing broadcaster Josh Bernstein posted a video on his YouTube channel Monday in which he called for the 2020 election to be canceled because of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, declaring that the Democrats have no right to even challenge President Donald Trump.

“In times like this, you should be kissing the ground that President Trump walks on,” Bernstein said. “You have a true leader in the White House that is handling this thing and doing the best job possible. If this was a Democrat? Forget it. There would be hundreds, thousands of more people dead already.”

“I say we just cancel the election,” he added. “Give President Trump until 2024 to not only get the economy back roaring again, but get rid of this virus. But you know what, Democrats? You haven’t earned the right to even challenge this man. Why? Because you tried to usurp his power from the beginning with your Russian coup. Then you tried again with the Ukraine coup. Then you tried to impeach him for absolutely nothing. And now we have this.”

because with all the rebukes and dems up for reelection, many will be out of a job if there is no elelction prior to January 20th; Nancy being one of them.

so it would go to who would be senior majority leader after all the vacant seats are removed. In the end it there would be more Dems than repukes and the senior member of the senatei s Patrick Leahy. Which I'm perfectly fine with. LOL

What if COVID-19 postpones the presidential election? Here's how Sen. Leahy could be POTUS

https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/2020/03/23/if-coronavirus-delays-eleciton-vermont-senator-leahy-could-become-president/2897152001/

In the event the presidential election was postponed, a Vermonter could ascend to the highest office in the land. Not Bernie Sanders — but Sen. Patrick Leahy.

snip

The Los Angles Times did an article about what would happen if the presidential election was postponed. Could President Donald Trump keep office, would House Speaker Nancy Pelosi become president or acting president?

Here is how his reasoning breaks down, according to Millhiser on Twitter:

-On Jan. 20, 2021 Trump and Vice-president Mike Pence's terms expire. They could not seek office.
-The Speaker of the House is third in line, but without an election every house member's term expires Jan. 3, including Pelosi.
-Fourth in line is president pro tempore of the Senate, the senior most member of the majority party, currently Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-IA. But, the majority party would flip because 23 Republicans and 12 Democratic seats would be up for re-election in 2020, with terms expiring in January.
-Losing less seats, the Democrats would have control of the Senate. The senior most member of the majority party, fourth in line, would be Leahy.

Next in line would be the Senate Pro Temp. Given the seats actually filled by Senators not up for election, the Democrats would have the majority. That means Pat Leahy, a very liberal, solid Democrat from Vermont would be elevated.

Her term end January 3rd or 4th, weeks before Trump's. After January 20th, with Trump and Pence's terms up (and all of the House), it would go to the order of succession. With his cabinet members terms also up on January 20th, it would go next in line, the President pro tempore of the United States Senate. And that is...

Chuck Grassley, yikes!

His term expires on January 20. 2021 at noon. I’d be okay with President Leahy for a while if that’s how they want to play it.

I guess he means the night of Trump's inauguration when Democratic leaders decided they'd never cooperate with Trump on anything even if the country needed it just to deny him the victory. Oh no wait...

Something tells me this guy never showed President Obama the same respect he now demands from us.

1. Trump can't cancel the election, only individual states can and even Trumplicking states won't want to cancel them because then they'd be disenfranchised if other non-Trumplicking states don't cancel theirs.
2. Calling for cancelling elections because of COVID-19 would contradict the idea that things are or will get better before November (not that Trump doesn't always contradict himself anyway but still)
3. We have means to conduct elections even if we're not all going to polling places. There's still time to work out logistical issues or concerns if we even have still have to worry about COVID-19, which we may or may not have to by then.
4. People, by and large, won't stand for this. We've held elections during other times of crisis. While this is a public health crisis, there would have to be something dramatically awful about this one that would necessitate the cancellation of elections and I can't think of it at the moment.

In short, this isn't going to happen.
