groceries which means going inside a store with a bunch of other people and check out clerks. I'd rater try my luck at a drive through - making sure to not touch the packaging. Unfortunately I've got some dietary issues that most drive thru's can't accommodate.

but even with that someone is touching your stuff, I'm wiping down all the containers my food comes in when it get back from picking up groceries. I can't really do that with McDonalds meals.
Of course, those will kill me if the virus doesn't.

This is really sucking.

as far as certain brands, but they called me back and they were able to offer substitutions. No real issues today. It worked!

for years in the food and restaurant businesses. Gloves, hand-washing, etc, are SOP. Plus there are annual inspections by state, county and local health inspectors, too. Take out is probably as safe as anything, if not moreso.

Although viruses in or on foods that have been cooked are probably safe, there's no guarantee those who handle it have not coughed or touched it in assembling your wrapped and bagged to-go meal.

Same applies to any open meal assembly products such as tomato and lettuce, especially for joints like Subway with lots of open cold containers. We must remember that viruses on chilled foods will survive far longer than those at room temperature.

I agree with your overall take on current restaurant safety, but those measures do not stop droplet and aerosolized virus particles. In addition, if a worker's gloves have virus on them collected from surfaces, they're useless.

IMO, the only safe way to use carry-out or deli food from the grocery is to buy only products which can be re-heated to a temperature at home that is know to denature the virus.

There's not one but two Chinese places and a Pho place all in the same parking lot, they were all open. They didn't have many customers, but they were all open.

reasons.

The open fast food joints are all takeout window only, while the Chinese places have no takeout windows.

But, the ice cream shops have worked it out where you call with your order and they meet you at the door.

Yes, we do live in interesting times.

as essential businesses, as well. The definition of what is "essential" varies, I guess.

Tobacco shops, on the other hand, will be forced to close here at 11:59 PM tomorrow. I found that odd, somehow. I'd put them in the same class as liquor stores, frankly.
