He is in Belo Horizonte. Dry (now turning wet) cough, sore throat, body aches, headache and dizziness. No fever, but has been on Tylenol for the past 3 days. He's asthmatic. The embassy in Belo has been contacted, and they are helping to get him diagnostics and treatment. He was scheduled on a flight on United out of Sao Paulo on Friday, but that may not happen now.
He has a hotel room in Belo to convalesce in (quarantined, obviously) with his girlfriend, if they don't admit him. We're in wait and see mode now.
I'm worried. We are "at home" here in KS (Johnson County, which has the most cases), and part of me wonders if he's better off there than here. Belo's a large city of 2 million, with multiple private and public hospitals. I just worry about the asthma part.

(1,040 posts)He went down for to meet his girlfriend and to bring her back with him. She is a Brazilian national who had worked here in the U.S. for several years (that's how they met). When her visa expired she followed the rules and went home, but obtained another visa to come back. He went down for them to have a vacation in her country together, and to meet her family. They intended flying back together but the Level 4 Travel Advisory put the kibosh on her coming into the US. Then American Airlines cancelled all flights in and out of South America, but wouldn't assist in getting him a flight on another airline until yesterday.
Now this.

(1,040 posts)He is on 2 week quarantine pending results of the COVID-19 test. They released him to return to the hotel, with instructions to return to the hospital if his condition worsens.
Thank you all for your kind words.
