Unless plutocrats are running things. And one could say he was a plutocrat; he came from great wealth and privilege. But he had great empathy for all people and that made all the difference.

When I was young the name Roosevelt was commonly given as a first or middle name. Thousands and thousands carried that name for good reasons.

We need him now.

2. My dad from Mississippi helped plant trees in Nevada

CCC was fabulous for him, in the heart of the depression. And good for Nevada, too.

3. The CCC is a favorite of mine. Such a great idea...

One of the most valuable programs of the New Deal. For instance, to build the Blue Ridge Parkway, they dug up all the rhododendrons and replantable trees and shrubs, moved them, and then replaced them after building the road and laying the rock. How much joy has the Parkway brought to visitors over the years? How many millions of dollars to the states it winds through and near? Multiply that by about every state, and that is just the parks that were created. There were so many other public works projects the CCC touched.
The young men who joined the CCC were jobless and many of them were homeless, having left home because there was no work, and the family could not support them. Because they joined the CCC, thwy became fit and healthy both mentally and physically and were ready when they were later needed to fight Hitler.
I had at least two great uncles on my dad's side who were in the CCC, and then fought in WWII. I didn't know it unril a few years before my dad died; both of those uncles died in the war IIRC.

4. 3 of my uncles got jobs through the CCC, back then.

They planted trees in Wisconsin, many of those forests are still visible, (you can tell if they are CC-planted, rows of one kind of tree in a forest,) there was just no jobs in the area they lived, until wartime industries got going.

I have his big frame picture of his camp in New Mexico.

He made $30 month.

His mother received $25 of it.

Took care of his mother and little sister.
