Went downstairs to check the mail and could hear ambulance sirens nearby and far away. An EMT unit just pulled up to the building next door. It's no longer an issue of fighting anxiety. I am freaking the fuck out.

(6,278 posts)I have been escalating into my fear zone.
Been self isolating since the early February. But nobody has been taking this seriously enough.
I ran out of my go to clam remedy, suntheanine. Thanks goodness more arrived today, which I took and it has helped a bit.
We are heading into a rough rough time.
Im holding your hand in my heart.
Sending you strength.

(10,167 posts)is crazy! Try to drown out the sirens with music, or watch a movie and escape for a couple of hours. That's what we've been doing at night. It really helps. I'm the only one that gets on the net at night. Everyone else tries to take a break.

Seems like a frenzy takes hold, but is it the responders or the citizenry going into bonkers mode? One year during the winter holidays there were EMS wailing away from cross town to turn into my street up to where some elderly renters lived, like it was an extra stressful holiday period with the t.v. commercials being hyper-insistent, freaking out the peeps.
For me, another factor is that I find the responders to be on the young side, who love *NOISE* and speed - it's WHAT THEY DO!1

Well, I think your carer is likely careful. God bless and keep. My tenant seems to be staying in now. I give him wide berth as he does me and we dont eat together. He does takeout and has his own bathroom,

(25,849 posts)Really. Maybe the person had a heart attack or a stroke or it's a domestic violence thing.
Stop freaking out. Keep in mind that even without this, some 7500 people die each and every day in this country. So far, fewer than 2,000 people have died from the Corona Virus. So the EMT unit pulling up to the building next door is highly unlikely to be Corona virus related.
Everyone, get a grip.

(17,045 posts)There are alot of us that are scared.... been laid off with no end in sight and you are so flippant to tell people to get a grip?
So not necessary right now. RUDE!

(25,849 posts)If you are spending your day glued to the TV and watching nothing but corona virus news all day, then you are going to start thinking that every single thing, including a hangnail is corona virus related.
I will repeat. Every single day in this country about 7500 people die. From lots of things. And so far a grand total of somewhat more than a thousand people have died from the corona virus. Do the math. Even now, despite the scary stories, most people in this country are not sick. Those who get this virus are mostly going to live. I know that's a very unpopular thing to say right now, but it's true.
If you choose to spend all of your time being terrified, then so be it.

(17,045 posts)Randy said nothing like that with his post.
You are shoving words into peoples mouths!
Take your reality and shove it! There are people that are concerned, scared and worried... This is an unprecedented situation. We do not know what is next!
With that said... go ahead with your twitchy finger and report my post. I don't care. You are still RUDE and apparently lack compassion!

(15,278 posts)Here in PA, only about 10% of all symptomatic individuals are testing positive for SARS2. Of the confirmed cases, nearly 99% are surviving (11 deaths of around 1200 cases). I think the state has stopped tracking the flu cases, but up until the 2nd week in March, 83 people had died from that.
We will get through this despite being a bumpy ride right now.

(2,748 posts)And I am really worried about her.
I realized I had a bunch of face masks that I bought a couple of years ago. I have dogs that require a lot of grooming as their fur and dander get in my nose and eyes, so I bought these masks for that purpose but I found them uncomfortable so I really never used them. I knew a I had a few left, but then I checked my orders on Amazon and realized I had bought a pack of 100. So I went looking for them and found them.
I had my husband call her to see if she could use them. She said they wee like gold there. So we overnighted them to her.
She sent us some small bottles of hand sanitizer as a thank you I guess.
I worry that we will get a call that she is sick and we couldnt eve go see her.

It is scary, but we are all being as careful as we can. The longer we hold out, the better our chances and hoping for our lived ones who are away. Put a nice light around them.

* If we don't let it come through our front door, we ain't gonna get it.
* If we follow the rules when we have to go out, we ain't gonna get it.
Despite living through many dangerous jobs and life events, I've never felt this threatened in my 72 years, all caused by an invisible foe.

Here you go buddy:
How to use 4-7-8 breathing for anxiety
Medically reviewed by Timothy J. Legg, PhD, PsyD on February 12, 2019 Written by Jenna Fletcher
What is it?
How to do it
The 4-7-8 breathing technique, also known as relaxing breath, involves breathing in for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds.
This breathing pattern aims to reduce anxiety or help people get to sleep. Some proponents claim that the method helps people get to sleep in 1 minute.
There is limited scientific research to support this method, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that this type of deep, rhythmic breathing is relaxing and may help ease people into sleep.

(12,463 posts)Every night. Got anxiety and PTSD.
It helps. It even worked when I got first diagnosed with diabeties and I was scared to go to sleep thinking my blood sugar levels would go off and kill me in my sleep. I had to leave a light on. Was having awful and vivid nightmares too. 478 saved ma butt.

(4,980 posts)Two freeways are three minute drives from my house. Want to tell you that the streets here have been quieter from the lack of passenger car traffic. When the emergency vehicles are called these days, they sound louder compared to previous weeks. There have been fewer calls, I think, so Id like to believe thats from fewer accidents, etc.
Youre telling us on DU about your observations, and that in and of itself is helpful for others to consider how to slow down and take in whats happening. Has helped me piece together how to maintain perspective. Want you to take care, and know theres always someone here.

(81,220 posts)Breathe.
Breathe.
Just keep telling yourself "the earth turns." It's a mantra that's helped me stay calm during some shaky times. Nothing lasts forever, the good parts OR the bad parts.
The earth turns. Nothing can stop it. It keeps turning. And night turns into day. And day then turns into another night. Because the earth is turning. And nothing can stop it. And it will keep turning, inevitably. And another day will follow the night because the earth turns. And whatever is now - will soon pass, as the earth keeps turning, turning day into night, and night into another day, and what is present will soon be past. Because the earth turns. And it always will. It never stops turning.
