People on Social Security are eligible to receive the coronavirus relief payment as long as their total income does not exceed the limit. Low-income Americans on Social Security do not need to file a tax return.
As long as they received an SSA-1099 form (the Social Security benefit statement), the federal government will be able to send them a payment via the usual way they get their Social Security payment.
Retirees and people on disability are both eligible for the special payment.

(12,462 posts)I need the help,so I can get flu medicine, food reserves ,and sundries I am rapidly running out of. Maybe a first aid kit and a noaa weather radio and a flashlight and lantern,as well as a few other things to prepare for emergencies.
Might even get a bidet.

(13,911 posts)as long as your SS is on direct deposit, that were supposed to get in a couple of weeks. Well see though.

(12,462 posts)Direct deposit of their checks already will get the money a tad faster. How fast I dunno.
Another thing I could do with the money is give to Dems and some to the local pet shelter. I want a few things to protect my cat in emergencies too.

(15,703 posts)I heard somewhere in the states all the dogs were fostered. I hope cats were too. I think during this time, people want animals to love so we are seeing increases in this. One bright side.

(46,023 posts)I heard a caller on Stephanie Miller say retirees wouldn't qualify because they don't have taxable income. I live on SS and pensions (and a little bit of writing income). They are all taxable.

(24,259 posts)I'd prefer the Dems idea of $200 a month through Dec 2021 for those on Soc Sec.

Maybe by then we'll have a Dem president and a big enough Dem majority to get the change that's desperately needed in how soc sec is calculated. (CPI-e vs CPI-w).
