I've officially given up on trying to reason with the irrational

I probably just alienated a childhood acquaintance. She continually posts easily discredited GOP propaganda, despite claiming to support a more liberal agenda, and I continually point out the flat out misinformation, citing reality and using facts. Today was the deal breaker. It was something she found by the Hillsdale, MI GOP that blamed everything the GOP tried to put into the relief bill, directly onto the Democrats. EVERYTHING that the Democrats refused to accept. Shaming Democrats for harming people. So, I let her know exactly what I thought about the irresponsibility of someone sharing such a vile piece of easily discredited propaganda, and “snoozed” her for 30 days. I fully expect that when that period has expired, I’ll find she’s unfriended me and, at this point, I won’t really care. ‘

Thanks for letting me vent . Time to take a walk around the property, and clear my head.

7. A few days ago I watched a debate someone had with a Flat-Earther.

It was on the channel "Modern Day Debates" on Youtube. Well, it had been organized and scheduled to be a debate, to be a back-and-forth. Only you could see how the Flat-Earther mentally checked out every time the other person was talking. The Flat-Earther straight-up ignored questions and denied the existence of certain evidence, even though he had just been shown this evidence minutes before.

"Why is atmospheric pressure exactly 1013 hPa at sea-level? Because of the Sun and the Moon and stuff. Next question."



These people CANNOT mentally process anything that would cast their world-view into doubt. It's absolutely acceptable for you to give up.

8. Before Facebook, my Dad used to send out GOP lies to everyone on his mailing list

I'd send back rebuttals with references and he'd ignore what I sent.

One day I got fed up so instead of just replying to him I clicked "Reply All" and sent the rebuttal to everyone. A few sent me back thanks and Dad was so embarrassed he stopped sending that shit out.

It was such a relief to not have to see the crap that Dad believed anymore.
