Unemployment benefits under the latest Senate bill - do we all need to file claims?

I’m guessing not. I can’t see CA processing 25-30 million UI applications. More than likely the state will simply run a computer program thru their tax records to determine who gets how much, and to process and issue checks, but who knows.

I think it's going to be a clusterfuck, but I think you'll probably still have to file. I suspect it will be more lenient and expedited though.

supposedly be automatic from either tax returns or Social Security records where they have a bank routing number to direct deposit amounts.

A note on unemployment -- According to two people I know who work in restaurants, the online application is easy -- even in my red state -- and they got approved quickly. During this period, they no longer require you to be actively looking for a job.

Nothing at the CA EDD site was different from 2018, when I was on UI. No notice at all about C-19. I suppose they can’t do anything until something concrete comes out of DC.

independent contractors will be SCREWED AGAIN...because that dumb ass bill took away our independent worker status and we all had to become "BUSINESSES" (even though we're just one-person operations) so how is our "business" gonna get unemployment money?

That bill had already ruined so many people, including me, and now this. I DON'T WANT a "small business loan" how the hell would I pay it back when absolutely no money is coming in?

how gig workers will file. Their pay doesn't get reported to state unemployment compensation offices.

I don’t believe 2020 will enter into the Fed calculation for the portion of UI they will provide, but it might for the state.
