Its true. Im a travel nurse (fortunately, I am in a hotel this time around). Scattered reports are on travel nurse FB pages about nurses being kicked out....hundreds/thousands of miles from home, mid-assignment.
Kudos to Daily Beast for writing about this ugliness towards frontline workers. IMO, landlords doing this should have a lifetime ban on whatever rental website platform they used to rent their property.

Around the country, nurses like Jones and Carterwho are fighting the epidemic with little protective gear and at great risk to themselvesare being booted from their homes by property owners who fear they may bring the new coronavirus home with them.
In interviews with The Daily Beast, multiple nurses described potential landlords backing out of rental agreements, Airbnb hosts denying their requests, and current proprietors turning them out on the street. The Daily Beast is using pseudonyms or not identifying some of them because they are still in negotiations with their landlords.
Honestly, I have never felt scared to be a nurse until this happened, said one nurse in New Hampshire. We love what we do, we just want to be able to do it without worrying about where we will lay our heads.

(20,489 posts)and renting an extra bedroom to the traveling nurses, I understand. They would be expected to protect themselves and their families.
Most of the air b&s I am aware of though are essentially turning what would be a regular rental and turning it into a short term rental.

(9,974 posts)I had seen that Airbnb was stepping up to the plate in Italy and France, asking owners to provide free housing for frontline workers and Airbnb would pay for post-stay cleaning. Many owners opened their doors/homes. It looks like Airbnb is trying to do it elsewhere. Apparently, *some* American owners, instead, are kicking frontline workers out.
https://news.airbnb.com/airbnb-to-help-provide-housing-to-100000-covid-19-responders/
This initiative builds on two pilot programs in Italy and France where Airbnb announced that doctors, nurses, caregivers and other medical support staff who are responding to the outbreak can access free accommodation through Airbnb. The Airbnb community has already responded to the call: nearly 6,000 hosts across both Italy and France have already offered their homes.
To enable healthcare providers and other COVID-19 responders to find housing, Airbnb will be working with businesses, nonprofits and government and emergency management agencies supporting these responders. Hosts can opt into the program and have the option of opening their homes for free through Airbnbs Open Homes platform, created in 2012 to meet the needs of people requiring emergency housing. If hosts are not able to host for free, Airbnb will still waive all fees on the stay.
