8. We are at a distinct disadvantage.

The "story" of the colossally damaging actions that predate the first case, as well as the resistance, incompetence, and utter failures to coordinate or take any meaningful action that followed the warnings of the outbreak is a series of actions, some of which require a good bit of explaining.

The truth is far less straightforward than the simple lie -- the "story" that Trump kept the Chinese virus out with the China travel ban and the assertion that if he had not done that as quickly as he had, the situation would be far worse.

His "story" is so easy to "get." If you don't know any better, it sounds quite plausible.

Of course, the ban was doomed because the virus had already been circulating, undetected, for weeks. His administration's obstruction and incompetence allowed it to silently spread. No testing. No tracing. No containment efforts.

The ban was also doomed because it was implemented so badly. (They didn't test -- didn't have a functional test at the time the ban was declared. They just screened for symptoms and told the symptomatic to go home and self-quarantine. Any of the undetected positives coming in, had, of course, already exposed all the passengers on the plane.)

But you know all this.

It all makes me so angry, I find myself raging, ranting, and "preaching to the choir."

.... so did the WHO and CDC. Trump and company just didn't want to listen. Once Wuhan was quarantined I know the epidemiologists were screaming bloody murder, and still Trump and Company put their fingers in their ears like 4 year-olds.
