Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the US have topped the totals in China and Italy, making the US the epicenter of the global outbreak.

Confirmed cases in the US hit 82,353 on Thursday evening, surpassing China at 81,782 and Italy at 80,589. The total number of confirmed cases globally is 523,163, according to researchers from Johns Hopkins University.
