Trump Threatens TV Stations If They Air Coronavirus Response Criticism

Trump is threatening to take away licenses from television stations if they air an ad that is critical of his response to the coronavirus.

"SNIP.....

The Trump re-election campaign told TV stations they could lose their operating licenses for airing an ad criticizing the president’s actions in the coronavirus crisis — a challenge that may be more bluster than actual threat.

…..

Failure to remove the ad “could put your station’s license in jeopardy” before the Federal Communications Commission, the campaign said in the letter. “Your station has an obligation to cease and desist from airing it immediately to comply with FCC licensing requirements.”

There are a couple of huge problems with the Trump campaign’s threat. First, the President doesn’t have the power to take licenses away from television stations. Second, the ad is free speech. It is criticism of the government that is protected by the Constitution. If Trump tried to take a license away from a broadcaster for airing the ad, the issue would go to court, Trump would lose.

Ratings must be OK+ or they'd say fuck it?

I only watch it for knowledge of his continued BS'n and laughs.

He repeats that BS about inheriting a broken system in reference to the virus, meanwhile he broke it?

Reporters should all be shaking their heads every time, it's like they don't know anything and just ask what they are told to?

I know, they have to ride the fence, because he can just remove them.

Classic Catch-22!

Stop airing his actual words, right after Fox News will cease ALL day long lies. If there ever was a reason to take away a broadcast license it would be a Russisn propaganda grand central network. Without Fox, trump would be impeached, and in prison before Summer's end. He and his spawn would be done in this country without Fox.

Months and months ago, Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), in his monologue, called Trump "Putin's c*ck holster." That drew criticism, and CBS had him somewhat apologize. However, after Trump threatened to pull CBS's broadcasting license, it appeared that the network "turned loose the Kraken" in Colbert. His monologues have been merciless and without restraint, and a huge relief to my ongoing anger and contempt. Miss him!

Just try to pull those licenses - just try it!

They'll do about anything to keep that from happening. As we used to say in the TV biz, "A license to broadcast is a license to print money."
If they lose the license, that gravy train goes away. Most of them are likely to cave.

This is nothing short of a dictator throttling the press.

But maybe someone should ask Trump why his campaign is indulging in empty threats.
