Detroit has far more cases than all its hospitals can handle, and the situation across the state (well, maybe not the UP) is desperate. She has been critical of the feds and the President -- as she has every right to be -- but she's a "nasty" woman in tRump's mind so he's punishing her.

She does an excellent job speaking to the public, but I hear the desperation in her voice, as well as anger and frustration at times.
Of course Trump hates her, and not just because she's a woman but because she doesn't hesitate to talk about what her state needs, and what the feds are not providing.

Yeah, probably not gonna happen, but it's a prime fantasy in the fevered brain of Trump.
The states need to band together to defend themselves from what's looking more and more like deliberate Federal mismanagement.
Remember, chaos is Trump's favorite management style.

He can't speak and can't move anything else, but he's fully conscious and aware, can hear, see, and feel. There's no Twitter and no way to communicate except by learning to blink in response to questions. He will live, in this condition in the prison hospital, to be a very old man.

(2,120 posts)How should vendors allocate their output if they have more orders than they can supply?
First in, first out?
By who is willing to pay the most? Auction?
By geographical area?
By social/demographic factors?
And don't say "need", who determines "need"?
How would you ration items in limited supply?
Ilsa
(61,694 posts)ethical choice to make. Auctioning certainly isn't the most ethical. Deciding by demographic data isn't, nor is geographical.
I didn't think that deciding against selling to the highest bidder was a difficult choice on DU.
dumbcat
(2,120 posts)What do you base the rationing on? That is the whole question.
Ilsa
(61,694 posts)Such as fulfilling only part of all the orders they currently have. There should be a standing policy already through FEMA or another agency to prevent gouging and address current and future needs. Are you proposing they outbid each other?
dumbcat
(2,120 posts)don't have an ethical rationing criterion to offer. Which goes back to my original question to you, What is the "right thing?" It's not as easy as it looks. Yet, someone has to make a decision.
Ilsa
(61,694 posts)The only thing you've done is scratch irrelevant retorts.
FEMA should have policies in place for determining the right thing to do. I bet it doesn't include price-gouging.
dumbcat
(2,120 posts)And I don't criticize folks and say they're not doing the right thing when I don't know what that right thing is.
I'm sure FEMA does have policies in place for determining what (they think) is the right thing to do. We probably think they are bad policies. That was my point. It depends on your priorities. Ours are good, theirs are bad.
Ilsa
(61,694 posts)instead of beating around the bush? There's nothing wrong with being more direct with your opinion if you truly value it instead of harping about other people's opinions.

What did the pandemic response plan say about allocating scarce resources. This is mobilization planning. It requires a defense logistics mindset.
Most importantly it requires coordination from the top without partisan considerations. That point must be emphasized.

(4,384 posts)First in, first out?-No
By who is willing to pay the most? Auction? No
By geographical area? No
By social/demographic factors? Are we referring to population centers? Hotspots-Yes.
And don't say "need", who determines "need"? N/A
How would you ration items in limited supply?-See above in bold.
It just is not that complicated. You are asking some pretty irrelevant questions, IMO.
Do they have the personnel to manage care?
Should rich people be able to buy one for private use?-no.

If Trump puts loved ones lives in danger in MI out of spite, he might remember the people he's using as pawns have family members who love them all over the country. There will be justice. Please don't give into cynicism that Trump will get away with all this in the end. He most certainly won't. It looks bad now, but believe that he is toast, because this is the truth. And it basically ended her political career. I do still see people say that Blancos response, forgetting about Bush, to the hurricane was atrocious. Bobby Jindal won on the basis that the Dems were terrible during Katrina.
I wonder if thats what theyre trying to do to Whitmer and other Dem governors? Try to say the Democrats arent doing enough to get people to vote GOP on all levels?
