Have a Trumpster neighbor who I normally avoid...however, she let me know today, her mother who was in a care home, just passed, and none of the family were allowed in to see her...I offered my condolences, at the end of the conversation, she also said she was done with that conman...her whole family comes from red state Trump country...she was done, done, done he's looking out for businesses and not for American people, an angry HE LIED TO US...wow, it's sad this it what it took...

The problem is their choices have/will kill our parents as well.
Thanks for sharing this story and hope you can go back to avoiding her under the a little too little a little too late clause.

I do feel for the woman for her loss, but hey lady, don't look to us for sympathy, because YOU are merely finally feeling responsible for YOUR actions.
James Carville said it best on 2016 election night: Laughing, he said: "People are going to learn that their votes have consequences..."

(17,266 posts)This is not a case of being duped. His voters voted for him because of what he is (racist, vulgar etc.) not because he was hiding his true self and they were duped. We have learned nothing about trump since the election that we did not learn prior to the election. The lady was fine when kids were put in cages and died, when parents were deported leaving their children behind and vice versa.
She is not fine when her mom dies.

(3,542 posts)As others have mentioned, until it touches them personally - they dont understand.
I have commented about my friend that voted for Trump and now refuses to watch the news or hear anything about what is going on to the nation. But now some of her friends and family are being impacted by the virus, so now it is not the flu, now it is not fake news, etc.. But come November, I would bet the house she will vote for Trump - unless someone in her family dies of the virus. And then, even then, it would be 50% - because another factor is her religious beliefs.
What a mess...and she votes.

(3,542 posts)I have this system (Ive noticed it) that I cut you slack on your first insane act:
For instance - vote for Reagan the first time - understand your mistake - second time (goodbye). But I didnt have a lot of GOP friends, so just loss a few.
Those that voted for Bush Jr. - disagreed but, initially no big deal. After getting us in that stupid War due to his daddy issues - those that voted for his re-election - Good Bye.
This friend hated Hillary (never could understand that, asked her if Bill had slept with her or something) but I didnt think she would vote for Trump given what was news at the time. So after she told me she voted for him (were in Washington State) it was hard, you have no idea how hard it was to keep this friendship of twenty years. But I think part of it was that her husband of fifty years had just died - and I didnt have the heart to turn away from her.
She has asked me if I would terminate our friendship if she votes for Trump again, so I know that she is thinking about it. And to be honest, I just dont know at this time. She is a good person in most things, except I have noticed she shares a lot of the GOP character traits. And sadly, if she votes for Trump for his re-election, I will terminate the friendship.

But, bottom line, we're going to have to utterly rout them in the upcoming election - a blue landslide at all levels of government - to even have a chance to remove this cancerous corporate-propaganda-generated tumor from our republic.

(11,726 posts)People tend to rally around authority when in crisis. Trump is president so he gets some of the benefit of the doubt. Remember that Bush, who had been criticized for being the "vacation President" and a general dumbass, had approval ratings of high 80% and even 90% after 9/11.
Media needs to stop showing Trump's ridiculous "briefing/rally" daily. He offers ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of value and actually does harm, but in the reptile brains of some people, he is at least "doing something" because he is out in front of the public and saying things.
LastLiberal in PalmSprings
(12,577 posts)The WH squawked when they said they'd only show the parts of future pressers that weren't misinformation, but then the two networks backed down and we're back to full length pressers/rallies, or as they're known in the journalism business, "Trump Reelection Infomercials."
I wish all of the reporters would get up and walk out whenever Fat Donnie attacked one of their colleagues or any news organizations. Let him bloviate to an empty room with the cameras turned off.

Congress worked out the stimulus. They control the money. Trump just signs the bill and of course he was going to sign the bill because putting money into people's hands might make them forget what a shitty job he has been doing during this crisis.

(11,726 posts)Unfortunately there will be more of that happening.
At the risk of generalizing, which is not a good thing to do, it appears that the conservative brain is wired toward the tendency to consider only what directly affects them (I.E. close family and maybe friends). They seem to be able to separate people as "other" more readily that people who are liberal.
I know for me, it hurts to see people that I don't know and will likely ever meet, suffer. I try to donate and advocate when I hear something happening across the country or around the world.
I knew that Trump was a con the moment he started to target a whole group of people as "rapists, murderers, and SOME good people". Everything that he has said and done has been clear indication that he only considers his own gain and would use and abuse anyone to get ahead.
It is very sad that it takes such a horrible and personal tragedy to open people's eyes.

I hope those survivors are in large enough numbers, and I have a vision of everyone of them massing at the White House and storming the fences -- and the sharpshooters on the roof, and the rest of the Secret Service members just stand there clapping and cheering them onward. (28,787 posts)i have a co-worker whose father will likely pass during the pandemic. He's old, frail, and has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. he's channeling trump when we talk on the phone. it's just the flu. we'll see how many die from coronavirus compared to the domestic violence and deaths by suicide because of the great depression caused by overreacting to the pandemic. he clearly gets all of his news from fox and no matter what the facts are he is not changing his tune. I doubt the fact that he will not be able to attend his father's death or bury him properly will change that.
one of our co-workers (in a different state) is sick with what is assumed to be coronavirus. i don't know if he's been tested or not.

They don't get any? Again I explained the job of a Governor is to take care of the people of his State. The other States have Governors and they must do the same for their people. Down the road it will clean trDumpie of any responsibility or obligation to straighten out the fucked up shit show he made initially in his failure to contain or effectively manage the virus right from the outset. He was too busy running around calling it a Dem/media hoax.
Now that he wasted too much precious time, fucked things up royally, now he wants to dump the problem in the laps of the Blue State governors. Stand on the side lines, criticize them, and dump all the blame on the Dem governors for his short comings that actually caused this whole mayhem and mess virus shit show.
trDumpie wants to be the media star who has his daily little press conferences about how perfect his virus response has been. Then when things go bad quickly point the finger of blame in someone elses direction.
There is always Obama, and the mess of a government he handed over to poor wittle trDumpie.
