Given the intensity of the conspiracy theories on the radical right that have arisen around the coronavirus pandemicparticularly the number of rightists claiming that government lockdown orders are an initial step in the imposition of a tyrannical orderit was only a matter of time before the U.S. experienced its first coronavirus-related act of domestic terrorism.
On Tuesday, a Missouri man named Timothy Wilson made preparations to set off a car bomb at a local hospital in suburban Belton, which was intended as a revolt against the stay-at-home order issued by Beltons mayor, but his plan was cut short by an FBI raid. When he apparently resisted with a weapon, he ended up being shot and killed.
Wilson had been the subject of an ongoing domestic terrorism investigation since September, according to an FBI statement. Wilson was actively planning to commit an act of domestic terrorisma bombingand over the course of several months had considered several targets, it read.
A number of far-right extremists have claimed that the pandemic is secretly a cover for the imposition of a totalitarian globalist government. Wilson, who was a participant in neo-Nazi chat rooms, decided to enact a plan he had already concocted for creating a car bomb and use it on a hospital in Belton, the FBI said.

Good riddance. Not inclined to celebrate someone's death but this asshole intended to kill a bunch of people.

(9,895 posts)Fuck these assholes. Anyone plotting to kill innocents or strangers or by-standers needs to die a similar death - unmourned, unhonored and no longer a concern for the humans on the planet.
Now gimme my party hat and favors...

(25,816 posts)and Wilson's response is to blow up a hospital? These people are certifiable,
and in Mr. Wilson's case, dead.

(15,805 posts)conspiracy theories? It would appear, if his fellow cretins are popped from the same mold, that they lack the mental capacity to concoct a wild tale devised from their dubious abilities.
As a political statement, this guy's logic was skewed if he blamed a hospital for the governor's shut down order. Why not target the politicians? Nothing adds up. Maybe, as I suspect, he was looking for fame and some air time to spout his unhinged beliefs and the benefits of tin foil hats.
