I heard a comment earlier while bypassing the television that health insurance companies have some form of fine print in cases such as pandemics for coverage.
When I heard this, my first thought was, if I need to be hospitalized, my insurance wouldn't pay and I'd lose my house.
I'd appreciate it if anyone has any information or clarification regarding this issue.

(15,450 posts)I purposely put house bill for obvious reasons. Like the senate or White House would put that if not for the house demanding it.

(23,218 posts)I had decent insurance last year and they changed my plan this year to some catastrophic shit that covers nothing.
I've called them twice asking if they covered hospitalizations, etc. and both times they skirted around my questions and I never got a direct answer.
I just want to be prepared.

Here's an announcement from Pennsylvania which I THINK -- but can't swear to -- applies almost everywhere:
https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/Pages/Coronavirus-Insurance.aspx
When reading this type stuff, watch closely for coronavirus testing vs. treatment. I think most of the time testing will be 100% covered by insurance. But treatment will fall back to the common terms of the policy -- usually something like the plan pays 80% and you pay 20% (up to policy out-of-pocket maximum).
With regard to the coronavirus lab test, most plans are covering it at 100%. That is, you won't have to pay anything. But, your doctor will likely bill for an office or hospital visit for evaluation. That is likely covered, but you'll be responsible for any deductible, copayment or coinsurance.

(23,218 posts)Yes, I do know they'll cover testing.
I was just curious as to whether it's been mandated that insurers cover hospitalizations, if needed.
I'll go and read this.
Thank you for taking the time to type this all out for me.
