The CA EDD site is fast and easy to use once you figure out which damn link to click to get you where you need to be.

I have received CA UI benefits before, but this is the first time I’ve filed as a 1099 worker. An expert on MSNBC said that under the new law, the state will pay gig workers et al about 50% of the normal benefit rate, but the Feds will still pay the $600 per week on top of that amount. $2400 a month for 4 months is nothing to sneeze at if you’re out of work.

The catch is that you must be approved by your state before the Fed $ can kick in. I imagine most people will be automatically approved with the overwhelming number of claims being filed.
