Where, pray tell, do we get these required masks? Will we get a shipment in the mail, along with our emergency relief checks??

Oh, and if we don’t have the masks, does that mean we are not allowed out in public for things like ~~ you know ~~ buying groceries and supplies?

This could get very complicated, very fast.

I also have some other types as well.

I bought all of them on ebay.com for a total amount invested being abt. $50 for 20 masks.

I am double high risk and cannot go out.

Food supplies are running short.

I checked into having groceries delivered from Safeway and their jacked up prices are not for me.

I just joined Instacart and placed an order at Costco.com with their jacked up prices as well, most of what I need is NOT IN STOCK. I do not know if it will work for me or not. They are supposed to deliver on Monday.

However, I am well-stocked on all cat supplies, food, treats, and litter for the foreseeable future, that is the good news.

I'd starve to death first before I would allow my precious cat to suffer, that is why I am still around in fact.

Otherwise, I am done with this situation as I see no cure any time soon.

My same opinion is that of a vaccine if ever to be found.

on Amazon in mid January. It's N95, black and has replaceable filters inside. Three days later, they were totally out of them. After I heard about the outbreak in China in December, figured I'd better be safe than sorry. I was laughed at.

My Instacart order is being shopped today. ZERO EGGS at Safeway! I may have to venture out next week to find them (in mask and gloves, natch)

And our health care professionals can't even get enough to keep themselves safe. How is the average American supposed to follow this guideline responsibly?

The CDC might as well advise we drink a pint of unicorn piss every morning. It's worthless advice when it is impossible to comply with.

While the evil republicans running things in our government were telling us masks did no good, doctors were wearing them.

I bought masks for my family six weeks ago, but you can make your own too. We've been wearing ours regardless.

...that could result in direct contact with sputum & saliva.
Don't think Drs wearing them is the right reference for every day folks.
I'd like to know exactly how they help before I just take their word for it.
If I'm going to be somewhere where infected people are coughing & sneezing, I'll be the first one to son a mask.
But, keeping exposure to others low, as we're all supposed to be doing, I'm not sure I see the priority.
Seems there are other very prudent ways to protect one's self.

25. I made my own masks. Here is what I did:
Sat Mar 28, 2020, 12:22 PM
Mar 2020

I crocheted them from a pattern. I then took tightly woven material and cut it to fit the inside of the mask. It may not be the best there is, but it seems to works better than having no access to masks at all. The material I used to line the mask clings to the yarn (bed sheets soaked and washed in bleach and dried) and can be reused over and over. I have about 7 of these masks and keep the liners either washed or with cutting up and old bed sheets, just dispose of them after use.

Here is the crochet pattern:

Crochet pattern has been altered by me to be made much larger by the use of a J-hook (I crochet rather tightly) and by adding 2 rows of single crochet around the sides after the last row in the pattern:

I have more washable interfacing on order that provides a barrier between the layers.

A Costumer friend of mine sent me a roll of a narrow one that is working fine. I made a mask for me from a scrap of fabric I bought that I made a dress for from a shop in Sydney Australia. My husband has 2 out of a Minnesota Twins print. It would have been baseball season.

Or just it somebody saying, "Gee, I think the CDC is going to change its guidance because I think they should and I need the retweets"?

And if the CDC does, of course he'll gain in prestige and status?

If it doesn't, will he double down and say, "They changed their plans to embarass me"? Or will he just take the hit and say, "Yeah, I was clueless and wanted to spread panic because I wanted people to think I was important"?

He's making a claim. He's either sowing fear or distrust. He should have some evidence for his claim.

33. Ask a cancer patient or survivor about 'clean protections'.
Sat Mar 28, 2020, 01:33 PM
Mar 2020

When I was diagnosed (pancreatic) last March, I learned what 'protective precautions' were needed, because I would need to be 'extra clean'. Chemo kills off your immunity first. I've had little to no immunities for a year. It takes months to rebuild immunities, after treatments/surgeries, etc. We've learned alot about protections during our cares.

Masks, gloves, personal cleanliness, and the cleanliness of those around you, are drilled into most cancer patients.
Those of us, who are already doing this, are a good resource for others to find support and learn some great daily life adaptations.
Google cancer treatments and you'll find great info on the topic of protection from illness while getting treatments.

Reach out to those you know who have had recent chemo/radiation treatments and simply ask them about being 'extra' clean.
We have alot to offer, during this pandemic. Many of us, currently under treatment and all treatment survivors, are pretty good at the very thing America is being asked to do today. Avoiding exposure.
Just ask.
