(22,628 posts)He's a psychopath. They thrive on chaos and pain. They love to hurt. Loving is creating pain to them. He's a twisted mf-er. He will not be moved by anything but pain and that will make him happy. To love IS to hurt for the psychopath. We need to stop expecting him to be empathetic even to the smallest degree. He's evil.

(6,926 posts)He was standing at the bedside looking at the monitor. The nurse who as giving him report from overnight did not know that the patient was a former coworker and friend of my husband. The patient was intubated, on a ventilator and on many medicines. She was not stable. I knew when he turned around there would be tears running down his face. She survived and many days later as he transferred her out to a regular room, she thanked him for the care. He thanked her for getting well.
We have stood at the bedside of nurses, doctors, former teachers, classmates and others we knew as they left this world, If you have not been there, read his words again, this is so very hard. And I never worked in conditions like this.
I can remember when I worked in ICU and had been a big fan of the TV show "China Beach" and thought that at least I was not in a war zone. Today in ERs and hospitals, they are in war zones.

In 1978 I had Guillain Barre. I was 20 and I was on a ventilator for almost 3 months. Im happy to say I lived through it but the thoughts of it are just as horrifying now!

(9,107 posts)He shouldn't be alive because of 50 years of drug and alcohol abuse compounded by several years in prison. He has been given drugs to cure his hepatitis C and other injuries and chronic illness. They aren't getting back to him right now. He's furious. Now I'm furious at him.
I called to check in on him and got an earful of anger at doctors and colleges. He has health issues and can't let go of pent up anger. He defends trump though. He couldn't stay on the phone to hear even one critique. He hung up on me before I could tell him about Dr Linda Quick of the CDC and his trade war.
I'm so upset by how he doesn't appreciate the sacrifice of those payng the price for trump policies. His anger seems to out weigh mine. Now I feel ill.

I know he is your brother and all that, but he sounds like a right proper bellend.
Just my tuppence, and I am sorry if I caused any offence.

(9,107 posts)I was seething when I posted this and needed to let off steam. Stress and anxiety weaken our immune systems. I will not be calling him again. Lifelong strained relationship that trump and the con theorists have made even worse.
If I could get him to acknowledge that a college education and the work of health care professionals are our greatest allies in this "war", I'd leave this planet in peace. It won't happen though. So I will wash my hands (20 secs) of him. Very sad.

(14,489 posts)Allow me to repeat that to myself to be sure I got it right:
Health care workers represent more than 20% of all #COVID19 cases.
The dedication of these people in the face of danger is astounding.
Hoping to find ways we can reach out and express our gratitude to these exceptional Americans, especially in the hardest hit areas such as New York, LA and New Orleans.
