I got a large package of chicken! That's what's been difficult to find.
It was half empty a week ago. So, this means supplies are moving!

(33,643 posts)Stuff that was gone last weekend like potatoes, onions, and most tomatoes were stocked.
Meat section looked close to normal too. Last weekend it was pretty cleaned out. There's also no chicken boullion, and chicken stock stocks are kinda low.
Only things really low were paper stuffs of course, pasta, rice, beans, soups, and zip lock bags esp large ones.
Maybe some other things I didn't notice.

(6,679 posts)I just want plain vanilla and some orange sunkist... you know where I'm headed with that one.
I found out yesterday you can whip evaporated milk just like cream and add powdered sugar/ vanilla. If I get it good and whippy and freeze... wonder how it will be in the orange pop? I know I know... one track mind.

(51,585 posts)around here. Last week... no oatmeal or boxed cereal, no meat or chicken or fish, no pasta or rice or beans. Then this next week... tons of boxed cereal, little oatmeal, tons of meat and chicken but no fish, tons or rice but no beans, tons of paper towels but no TP, etc. It is interesting to see what and when people buy certain products. Businesses and psychologists should study these newly changing habits.
People would rather wait outside of Trader Joe's for 1 1/2 hours (6' apart and a certain number allowed in the store at a time) than walk right into Ralph's right next door. I would rather be safe, spend an extra $5 for the same products and get back home. I will buy the Trader Joe products when it is not a health hazard to get a can of hearts of palm.

(31,261 posts)but there were lots of people shopping at it and waiting to get to it, so my guess is it was well stocked. The rest of the store was impressively well stocked. Kudos to the Americans that are in food processing, packaging, shipping, delivery and stocking.
I bought a large package of skinless chicken breasts and a packet of chicken thighs from another market earlier this week on my way home. So look like grocers are catching up. Another thing that I noticed earlier today and earlier this week was that the people who were shopping were not loading up their carts.

(1,086 posts)But in general things as starting to even out. The expectations are that we will be on to the newer normal this week or next.
There were real supply chain distributions as about 45% of all the food consumed in the US came through restaurants. Those to a large extent are different packaging and supply chains, similar but different. The hoarding impulse is running its course, but we can expect buying habits to shift slightly over the past. There will be fewer trips to the store with more purchased at a time. This will tend to favor bigger stores so Costco is gearing up.
