Killing Your Studens To Own The LibsLiberty officials accuse outsiders of playing politics. Within the school, there are signs of panic. Im not allowed to talk to you because Im an employee here, one student living on campus wrote in an email. But, he pleaded, we need help to go home."
The New York Times reports:
Mr. Falwell a staunch ally of President Trump and an influential voice in the evangelical world reopened the university last week, igniting a firestorm, epidemiologically and otherwise.
As of Friday, Libertys student health services Dr. Edward Eppes said, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggest Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. Three were referred to local hospital centers for testing. Another eight were told to self-isolate.
Liberty will be notifying the community as deemed appropriate and required by law, Mr. Falwell said in an interview on Sunday when confronted with the numbers. He added that any student returning now to campus would be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Oh, wait, now the students may be sheeple for attending a fake university, but they are not lambs. Just had to point that out.

(9,974 posts)Both owned by Centra, neither are gonna be able to handle the onslaught.
I used to work at one very briefly. Til my license was gonna be on the line because of patient care mismanagement that was expected.
Most all frontline workers are very new grads, the seasoned ones are travel healthcare workers who jump ship as quickly as possible once they, too, see how the system is ran. Average patient ratio on the medicine floors are 1 nurse to 7-8 patients. Most staff left when that ratio was bumped up to 7 patients.
Looks like I got outta town just in time. Locals are gonna be pissed at LU leaders...there is/was already a strained relationship between towns people and the university.

Not like they didn't have the information at hand to make a properly informed decision.

(2,770 posts)but I didnt want to seem too callous. I really do feel for those students. Theyre just coming into their own and figuring out their values and beliefs. Thats what actual universities help with. The owners/administrators political leaders, though? Thats another story.

(70,489 posts)Dr. Thomas W. Eppes Jr., I just am not going to be so presumptuous as to say, This is what you should do and this is what you shouldnt do,
LYNCHBURG, Va. As Liberty Universitys spring break was drawing to a close this month, Jerry Falwell Jr., its president, spoke with the physician who runs Libertys student health service about the rampaging coronavirus.
Weve lost the ability to corral this thing, Dr. Thomas W. Eppes Jr. said he told Mr. Falwell. But he did not urge him to close the school. I just am not going to be so presumptuous as to say, This is what you should do and this is what you shouldnt do, Dr. Eppes said in an interview.
So Mr. Falwell a staunch ally of President Trump and an influential voice in the evangelical world reopened the university last week, igniting a firestorm, epidemiologically and otherwise. As of Friday, Dr. Eppes said, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggest Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. I feel sorry for the children and sorrier for the medical personnel who have to treat them because of the President's gross negligence and that of Jr. Fawell.

(54,341 posts)At the first confirmation that a student on the LU campus has tested positive for COVID-19, whether infected there, or brought the infection in from the outside, Falwell needs to be arrested for criminal reckless endangerment. At the first fatality, he needs to be arrested for negligent homicide, and held without bail, as he obviously presents a mortal a danger to his community, and has no intention of ceasing to be one.
