Germany could issue thousands of people CV 'immunity certificates' so they can leave lockdown

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-germany-covid-19-immunity-certificates-testing-social-distancing-lockdown-2020-3

Adam Bienkov 4 hours ago

Germans could soon be issued "immunity certificates" that would allow them to leave the country's coronavirus lockdown earlier than the rest of the population if they test positive for antibodies to the virus.

States across Germany are in lockdown, with strict quarantines imposed in some parts of the country.

However, researchers at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig want to send out hundreds of thousands of antibody tests over the coming weeks that could allow people to break free of the lockdowns, Der Spiegel reported on Friday.

If the project is approved, the researchers will test 100,000 people at a time starting in early April, Der Spiegel said.

The tests are designed to detect whether a person has developed antibodies to the COVID-19 virus, indicating that they were at one time a carrier and may have built up immunity.

This is basically what will have to happen here to "re-start the economy" as long as the science is sound on immunity/re-infection.

but a visual indicator, which can be seen from a few meters away, would be better than a certificate.

How else will people/officials know that the person is legitimately certified without having to violate social distancing rules (and take on the risk that goes with that) to check the certificate?

While discussing testing people for COVID-19, Jim Cramer just said, "maybe we have to give people a star, as they do in other countries."

Wow, @CNBC
... wow.

Why stop there. Why not add some kind of tracking number, maybe in the form of a tattoo?

I don't get this guy's appeal. Buy right before the 2008 collapse.

There will be some young (and maybe not so young but stupider) "invincibles" who want to rush the process so they can get their lives back to normal. Then some of them get sick and end up taking resources needed by people who caught the virus without trying.

Without a police state, and even then, it is not completely possible to stop people who WANT to be infected. This program would make it more desirable to tempt fate.

Okay all me a doomsayer or negative nelly or whatever, I just can see how this could go horribly wrong if started too soon.

But yeah, I was actually thinking something similar, until my inherent negativity kicked in.

such a person can still pick up virus on themselves from the environment and redeposit it. So they would still have to abide by the rules for everyone else.

As other posts upthread show.

In fact, some "get the economy moving again" suggestions going back weeks boil down to this, but you have read more than the 280-character summary from the writer's opponent. If you just read the oppo summary then obviously it can't work.

What makes it possible--besides having been positive on COVID tests and then recovered--is antibody tests that have come out in the last week or so and which are entering production about now.

Premature decision by the Germans if they do it.

I can see taking immunes as volunteers to help take care of other COVID patients, though.
