Quarantine Chronicles:
Its going to be long ... hopefully youll read it .
I see people losing their minds over being home and hoping this all ends soon so they can get back to work or the bars or whatever ... with that said (here it goes) ...
A lot of you dont remember the start of the Iraq war .. Operation Iraqi freedom . I do . I remember it well . I waved goodbye to my husband as he stepped onto a bus to be deployed , not knowing if my babies or I would ever see him again .
I socially distanced for 18 months . I had to take care of my tiny family. I didnt have much help from friends or family but I did stay in close contact with a few , and I will never forget their kindness and help when I needed it most . I get it . Money is tight . Going from providing for a family with a civilian job to a military salary ? Lets just say , Robbing Peter to pay Paul became a sport ...
Do any of you remember when our country sent our military into a war without the proper equipment ? It happened . Youd think we learned our lesson about preparedness since then . Families were buying Kevlar vests and sending them to loved ones in combat zones . I sent some combative emails to Colonels about sending my husband into war without that proper equipment . It didnt go over to well . I had to buy equipment and ship it to my husband ... protective eyewear , boats, ruck sacks , gun holsters ... etc . It was months into deployment before they began to get what they needed to keep them safe and ALIVE.
What we are seeing within the medical community , not having the proper equipment , is abhorrent . If they wore a different kind of uniform in a different kind of war ? No one would be questioning their need for equipment and the government would be shipping everything and anything they needed ... zero questions asked regardless of cost .
Imagine President Bush telling a particular unit, or a brigade , he wasnt sending them up armored vehicles because he didnt like their commanding General. Imagine that .
We , our government, need to provide our medical community with the proper equipment to battle this war . Seeing people making masks and donating food for pantries is amazing . Its heartwarming . Its reminiscent of WW2 . Communities working together for the effort .
But I gotta say it out loud, for the people in the back ...
its also heartbreaking that in the year 2020 , the richest country in the world ... Our government , this current administration , is NOT prepared for this war . Weve become so complacent with war . We never really think about it unless its a holiday or your friend or family member has to actually mortal combat for you in another country . We are jaded and numb to tragedy . Desensitized if you will .
Theres a literal war on our soil and we are not prepared . Imagine if it were an actual invasion of bombs and troops . Would we wait months to counter attack ?
My heart goes out to those in the medical field who leave their families everyday to go to literal battle . To the doctors and nurses who hug their kids and go to work , for us, not knowing if theyll be able to come home healthy or carry some pathogen home ... or come home at all .
Some of you dont remember the start of the everlasting 17 year war.... and it shows ...
Stay home . It will save lives . Its not forever . Be patient
...... and vote that dirty mofo out of office in November even if you have to crawl to the polls

(31,909 posts)Great essay. Tara speaks the truth.
This country (well,Republicans) puts the safety and interests of the 1% over the men and women fighting in the trenches every darn time, and I for one am pretty damn sick of it.
Look where we are, now, since the pathetic unfit moron denied the existence of coronavirus because he was more concerned with how it would make him look in regards to the stock market. Its time for a big change this November.
