This is how far back we have to put the swab to test you for #COVID19.
You might want to follow medical recommendations and #StayHome.

If you've had your sinuses checked before, this is not bad... unless you have an untrained person doing it.
The problem is, most of those people testing seem rather untrained.

(100,063 posts)I've had literally all kinds of prongs, tubes, cameras and swabs shoved in my nose in the last 10 years. I guess I'm used to it.
But what I'm saying is suck it up. If that's what people are afraid of then this thing is gonna get dragged out years.

(51,584 posts)However, the pain of a test is nothing compared to the pain of having the disease itself.
I have daily migraines and need 32 injections of Botox into my skull every 3 months. They hurt like Hell and I can hear the needle go "crunch, crunch" as it goes thought muscle and tissue but it is PICNIC compared to the migraines that normally would have me close to jumping off a bridge.

I would begging for an Rx for enough hard dope every day to kill a small roomful of people if it were me ... instead.
BigmanPigman
(51,584 posts)and I tried everything for 1 1/2 years. Without the ACA I would jump off a bridge since not only would I be bankrupt (Botox for a year is $15,000+) but the pain is indescribable and it is constant and all over your skull in a 24/7 loop.

(52,196 posts)I currently get:
Botox
Sphenopalatine ganglion (spg) nerve blocks
And aimovig.
All to reduce migraines.
The spg blocks are basically just a squirt of marcaine (similar to lidocaine or Novocain) in the same spot in the diagram, back of the nasal cavity. Twice a week for 6 weeks. Blecch, but better than the migraines....
If the migraines are bad and frequent enough, it's worth finding a doctor who is trained for this procedure.

(26,109 posts)that test a wee bit more uncomfortable too.

(52,196 posts)The septum normally shifts left and right so it's easily pushed out of the way during a procedure. I get spg blocks routinely to reduce migraines. Squirt of marcaine at the back of the nasal cavity, same as in the diagram but with a needle instead of a swab.
My deviated septum hasn't been a problem at all.

(13,485 posts)But really it's not that bad. The swab just slides in. Most people don't stick stuff back that far but the room is there and it's over in seconds. That is if you don't move. If you jerk and break the swab off in your head all bets are off.

(261 posts)My sister is feeling very sick and took the test this morning in Spokane. I am very worried, as she has many of the symptoms and is an asthmatic. She told me that just watching TV wore her out this afternoon. My son-in-law who works in a care facility in Tacoma had the test last week as he and my daughter were very sick for a few days. He said the swab made him want to sneeze for about an hour afterwards, but it didn't hurt. His test came back negative this past Saturday, so he returned to work today. One of his tasks today was to create isolation gowns out of garbage bags. It doesn't make me feel too confident that he is going to be able to avoid another test down the road.

(5,523 posts)My both inner ears were blocked for days after an 8 hour flight in a Super Connie. He inserted one up each nostril at the same time and twizzled them for a few seconds. He probably had some medicine on them. Yes, they go all the way back. It was very uncomfortable, especially with an audience watching. It didn't help. My ears unblocked about a month later.
