Nearly 100,000 Sign Petition Calling For End To Live Coverage Of Trump's Coronavirus Briefings

More than 90,000 people have signed a petition calling on news broadcasters to stop providing live coverage of the White House's briefings on the coronavirus outbreak.

Accusing President Donald Trump of using each briefing as a "live campaign rally," the petition, which has been published on MoveOn.org, asks CNN, ABC, CBS NBC, NPR and Fox News to consider whether it is necessary to livestream the COVID-19 press conferences in full.

"President Trump is blatantly using the news organizations' extensive, live coverage to freely campaign for a second term," the petition claims. "It is wrong and dangerous to provide so much unfettered airtime to someone who is happily, shamelessly spreading terrible, damaging misinformation that is already costing fellow Americans their lives."

Rather than broadcasting live coverage of the White House's COVID-19 briefings, the MoveOn petition asks broadcasters to monitor the briefings instead "and have your anchors and correspondents quickly share appropriately edited valuable accurate parts."

The "valuable accurate parts," the petition states would be the statements coming "from medical experts." Cutting out Trump's own comments, the petition asserts, would "leave the President's insults, false braggadocio and outright lies on the editing room floor, where they belong."

"Please stop covering the President's daily live campaign rally (thinly disguised as a coronavirus 'news conference')," the petition implores. "There is no need to do so."

In the days since the petition was launched, it has quickly garnered support, gaining tens of thousands of signatures since three days ago, when it had just 10.

doing, and most importantly not doing.

No one is forced to watch them. And no matter how many lies trump tells, it's pretty obvious he's incompetent and making this worse than it needs to be.

No high rating so the briefings will fail. (I think here must be a better word for these events: infomercials?)

4. Important to Stop the WH Daily Propaganda Ritual

Caution though: The WH could use this petition to accuse the Democratic voters of trying to take First Amendment rights of this administration away. Another round of lies for the gullible to swallow; and you know they will.

We could have a big impact here with some solidarity.
What would happen if we decided, as one body, to just stop tuning in? Why leave it to broadcasters to remove this crappy reality show from our midst when we can use our own power do it ourselves by just not looking at it? Media can then honestly report that they're not covering the show due to poor ratings.

Imagine that piece of news coming across your msn media feed: "Media Outlets Stop Broadcasting Trump Covid19 Updates Due to Poor Ratings and Misinformation"

We want journalists there. It's crucial these events are chronicled & accurately reported. But, we don't have to watch. Let's not crane our necks to view this train wreck. He's all about the ratings. He craves them. It's the most important thing to him. So, let's take this toy away and see what happens.

Make the ratings dive drastically. Totally possible. A thrilling possibility. But, we've got to be as one to do it. All of us.
It's as good a place to start as any, imho.

Then boycott them. They do understand lower sales and less profits. I turn the channel and won't watch that station again .Stations knowingly showing someone promoting propaganda I will not watch.

(WEWS) that I patronize for the news to complain about this crap, and was able to speak to the VP/General Manager. According to him, the administration is claiming that the declaration of a national emergency requires coverage of these "briefings". Apparently there's been "suggestions" that they could be in violation of FCC regulations if they do not comply and this could possibly lead to a revocation of their broadcasting license. He conceded these pressers offer very little in information that is accurate and valuable to the general public. He advised to submit complaints to the FCC.

that we tune out these propaganda fests as a community.

Now that using propaganda on American citizens is legal, this administration can say whatever it wants without breaking the law.
We may not be able to remove the lies but we can sink the ratings.

spewed in those so-called briefings. I catch important updates mostly through local sources. I do scan around the net to find other states' governor and mayor briefings and watch several of those... NY, LA, MI, CA, IL, WA, depends on what I find listed. Listening first-hand from state sources works better for me, plus, it's less stress. I'm not cringing and disgusted by those giving the briefings, plus, I'm not thinking every other word is a lie.
