TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday stood by his decision to not implement a statewide shutdown in response to the coronavirus pandemic, adding that he has been in touch with members of the White House coronavirus task force to discuss the issue.

“I’m in contact with them and basically I’ve said, ‘are you guys recommending this?’ The task force has not recommended that to me,” he said. “If they do, obviously that would be something that would carry a lot of weight with me.”

I thought today was the "Let's look like we are taking it seriously" day. The day to show that the WH thinks this social distancing shit matters.

Refraining from advising a state to implement strong social distancing measures cannot be reconciled with the "message of the day."

It demonstrates that the "task force" is being guided by no moral or scientific authority.

How do we get this across to the people who are buying "Trump the leader" and "the ban on travel from China kept the Chinese virus out" and "it would be much worse if DT hadn't banned travel from China so quickly."

We need to figure this out because the people buying aren't just his usual base. They include Independents and Dems.

The simple lie is winning over the more complex truth.

It's just good to think of all that is wrong with Florida is based on social networks in the business community. Republicans are going to be the types described in sophie's post here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213213146

But we have go along Dems in those networks too, which can always be counted on to stand up and support boneheaded decisions from members of the GOP, if the Dem can benefit from it through business or politics. That said, let's hope that this time it's different.

When thing go wrong, DeSantis can blame Trump, and Trump can blame DeSantis. They are like buzzards circling. You can be assured, when this is over, both will be praising each other and themselves for what a great job they did saving lives no matter how many die. If things go horribly wrong they have, what they will consider to be, plausible deniability.

In Florida, we have a Republican governor, a Republican house and senate, and a right wing court. They bear full responsibility for their failures and should be held politically and personally responsible for their failures. All of the failures revolve around greed and the faithful service to big business and big money over all other considerations.

When this health crisis is over we need to break out our pitchforks and guillotines. America can not afford to leave these Fascist bastards at the helm of the ship of state. If we do not want a repeat of this disaster, we are going to have to make some changes. If we let them get away with this gross mishandling of our health and safety then they will understand that there is nothing we are so passive that there is nothing will not accept.

The primary responsibility of the government is collective security, and they have failed miserably. Since they have shown that they do not have either the will or the ability to protect the people, then they have no legitimacy.

with golfing and parties at Mar-a-Loco so obviously "not recommended."

Due to the large population of vulnerable retirees there, FL should have been the FIRST state to order a lockdown.

That must be sooooo painful.

Any bets that he "applies" for a big gov't bailout while the employees are lining up at food banks?

Thanks!
