Back in the olden days, mass Graves with powdered Lye to not spread disease. Who has the money to spend on coffins now? Pine boxes will not do.

In a speech on Tuesday, Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease official in the country, said there are "glimmers" that social distancing is slowing the spread of the coronavirus in the U.S. He warned that Americans are still "in a very difficult situation" and shouldn't get overconfident, there are signs that the outbreak is starting to dampen. As of Tuesday, Johns Hopkins reports a total of 175,000 confirmed cases in the U.S., far and away the worst outbreak in the world so far. The death toll passed that of 9/11, with more than 3,400.

Since the U.S. was so slow to respond to the outbreak of COVID-19, the benefits of social distancing will be slower to kick in, which is why Fauci is cautiously optimistic about positive "glimmers." But things are still especially bad in New York state, which currently has 75,000 confirmed cases and more than 40,000 in New York City alone. In particularly ominous news, the city is now planning to dig mass graves on Hart Island, a 130-acre piece of land in the northeastern Bronx. More specifically, according to The Intercept, the city is paying Rikers Island inmates to dig whose mass graves, well below the city's minimum wage of $15 per hour: in exchange for personal protective equipment (PPE) and just $6 an hour.

but at some point in the not-too-distant future we're going to have to consider mass graves/pits, as it was done during the Black Death.

If the cadavers remain infectious for more than a day that's pretty much a certainty in the worst impacted locations.

After seeing what happens when you have no plans (this was after my father died), I pre-arranged for two.

At that time (1998) it was $1,600. Today it costs about $4,000.

Needless to say, I am glad I did it when I did as the last thing I care to do is to end up being a dead body that no one cares to deal with.

We all set for cremation if it's us.

If I'm dead, frankly... I don't give a damn?

I had went through this less than 2 years ago when close family died.

It was roughly $1100 then and I was part of the scatter ashes squad.

Losing a close family member is bad enough, but it takes what it takes to drive one into action it seems. I also had a DNR and directives done at the same time with an expiration date stating none.

My advance directives are on file with the hospitals nearby. I'd recommend everyone do this as you can do this yourself and you do not need to hire an attorney.

Glad to know you pre-arranged when you did.

Its crazy how much more it costs today today!

In any event, I'd still pre-arrange if you have the money for it.

This is a grim discussion at best but pertinent like it or not.
