A Pittsburgh area pastor says he plans to organize an outdoor Woodstock-like Easter service to protest the stay-at-home orders to prevent coronavirus. Conservative Christian pastor Jonathan Shuttlesworth made the announcement on social media Tuesday.
Im gonna announce it. Were gonna hold an outdoor Easter blowout service. Not online. A national gathering. You come from all over, like Woodstock. And were gonna gather and lift up Jesus Christ, Shuttlesworth says.
His announcement comes following the arrests of several pastors in the U.S. for violating the stay-at-home orders. Shuttlesworth is a televangelist who co-founded Revival Today TV, and is based in Washington County.
Earlier this month he called out European churches that are taking measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus:
Shame on every European full gospel church, bunch of sissies, that shut down during this thing, Shuttlesworth said. If youre putting out pamphlets and telling everybody to use Purell before they come into the sanctuary and dont greet anyone, you should just turn in your ministry credentials and burn your church down turn it into a casino or something, he said on social media. Youre a loser. Bunch of pansies. No balls. Got neutered somewhere along the line and dont even realize it.

2. Thousands of Trump voters show up and everyone gets infected, hundreds of more deaths.
Not sure how I feel about either possibilty

People they KNOW personally are getting sick... and some are dying.

(628 posts)Another possibility, this huckster is forced home without internet access.
The problem with option #2 is twofold.
First, if this suicide rally goes forward, these people will return home and infect, injure and sometimes kill others.
Second, the people who would attend have been duped by confidence tricksters and many of them come from vulnerable populations.
Blaming the victim of such a scam is not done by our laws. A sentence of death, grave lung injury or family and friend spread is beyond harsh.
Blaming false information spread on conservative news sites, by our fabulist president and his cronies, like this huckster, is much more just.
A virus does not care about justice, but law enforcement does. Locking this man in his home with an ankle bracelet and taking away his internet access would be a just response.
Second, healthcare workers and first responders would have to deal with the infectious fall out from this idiocy. That is simply unacceptable.

Are they so desperate to be a bit richer and more famous that they are willing to kill their own parishioners?
This insanity is not loving your neighbor. It is more like attempted murder.

(3,622 posts)There isn't a single word in the entire Bible imploring you to display manly pride in your faith. Quite the opposite, even in the Old Testament where humility before God is a major theme even when JHVH himself is busting enemy ass. It's obvious that these ministers have drunk a wee bit too much of their own koolaid, and they obviously really believe God will protect them from any threat if they worship hard enough. If they were simple shysters, they would know they are endangering their own lives, dignity, and future income stream by risking these gatherings.

No balls? Yeah, thats the kind of intellectual rigor we expect.
One thing you can say about the mainline religions - they are not a bunch of backwoods yabbos proud of being ignorant.
