"Define generous" - another hole through the the big, foam, We're Number One finger

This is from the blog of a woman who advises non profit organizations. In this issue, she does a great job of pointing out a small point that many of us have probably at least considered. In that the whole thing is just three paragraphs, I'll provide just a link. The link is safe.

I retired from Planned Parenthood of CT in 2004 and had worked for other liberal organizations, mostly as a Development professional raising money. After what I experienced, I have to say that I agree 100% with the blog. Fundraising for noble causes ain't that noble. Why must we depend on the kindness of strangers in this country?

I no longer believe that it is so great to have to rely on nonprofits, whose coffers rise and fall, for the handouts to the poor, needy, sick or troubled?

Citizens have it in their hands to establish humanitarian government programs that serve all of us. The whole nonprofit schtick is just feelgood shit designed to make donors feel saintly for putting their names all over the wing of a hospital, or a library, etc. Never mind that they want their names in BIG letters.

It's a disgrace.

Mostly for the arts. But what you say sums it up for us, too. We've often thought that if all the money the bagmen collect for political elections were redirected to all non profits, we'd be better off. Add to that the removal of money from politics and we'd be waaaay better off.
