Dr. Drew apologizes, was 'wrong' about coronavirus threat

Dr. Drew Pinsky is issuing a mea culpa after continually downplaying the danger of coronavirus for months and claiming it was "press-induced panic."

He once said you're more likely to die after being "hit by an asteroid" than the highly-contagious virus. On Saturday, he drastically changed his tune.

"My early comments about equating coronavirus with influenza were wrong. They were incorrect," Dr. Drew said on Saturday, referring to his consistent comments from February and March. "I was part of a chorus that was saying that, and we were wrong. And I want to apologize for that."

"I wish I had gotten it right, but I got it wrong," he added.

To date, more than a million people worldwide have tested positive for coronavirus and nearly 68,000 people have died. The United States has more coronavirus cases than any other country in world with 323,500 confirmed cases, more than doubling Spain, which has the second-most cases with 130,000.

is what we'll hear from a lot of people who should have known better and used their common sense.

I am not going to forgive and forget many, many people who should have known better. Some out right lied for what ever reason yet others made statements that were taken very seriously by the public since they are considered "experts". Drew falls into the 2nd group.

Fox, CNN, MSNBC and on and on. They may still be licensed physicians but there real job is tv star.

And don’t listen to doctors talking outside their specific field. A proctologist or cardiologist know little more about pandemics than a well read American. They probably touched on it in med school but then focused totally on their specialty.

I had the father of a friend who did heart surgery and was good at it. He would compare what he did to a car mechanic. Fix something broken. Of course it required ridiculously high training, skill and knowledge. But the point he was making was that he was an expert in his narrow field of practice. And had steady hands.

A perfect example is Ben Carson. Secretary of something or another. He was a gifted brain surgeon doing cutting edge brain surgery. But thinks the pyramids were grain storage buildings.

Have a pandemic. Listen to epidemiologist. And certainly not a debunked economist like Peter Navarro.

.... and that has allowed the birth of Fox News and other right wing propaganda sites which
have bathed America in misinformation for 2.5 generations. Such as Dr. Drew's purposeful bull-
shit about C-19.

BTW That awful Obama Presidency left in place the people, the protocols,
and the infrastructure that were designed to stop the C-19 virus that will now
kill millions around the world because Trump got installed by Russia as POTUS
and people like Drew and Fox news have been propping him up from even before
he stole the election.

Dr. Drew's legacy is now fixed in cement as a right wing hack.

From his Wikipedia write-up:

Drew Pinsky

Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drew_Pinsky#Personal_life

(snip)

Politically, Pinsky has increasingly spoken of the 'tyranny' of governmental overreach and the need for a “Liberty Party.”

In mid February 2020, Pinsky called the Media's reaction to CoViD-19 outbreak "overblown-press created hysteria" and remarked that "people that are special diseases specialist, people in the CDC, epidemiologist need to take this very seriously." Subsequently, he tried to rewrite months of claiming the flu was worse than CoViD-19, by claiming on March 31 that he had all along said CoViD-19 would be worse than the flu.

(snip)
When it came to confronting the effects of too much sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, Drew Pinsky was the man everyone sought out. An American board-certified internist and addiction medicine specialist, "Dr. Drew" (as he was more popularly known), was the MTV generation's Dr. Ruth. He dished helpful advice to millions through his nationally syndicated radio show "Loveline," the TV series "Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew" (Discovery Health Channel, 2005), and in the reality program "Celebrity Rehab" (VH1, 2008- ), where he spent 21 days with stars who battled alcohol and drug addiction, including actor Jeff Conaway, wrestler Chyna, and former "American Idol" (FOX, 2002 - ) contestant Jessica Sierra.

David Drew Pinsky was born on Sept. 4, 1958 in Pasadena, CA. His father Morton was a doctor, and his mother Helene Stanton was a singer and actress. As a child, Pinsky often went on house calls with his father and decided he, too, wanted to be a doctor. He attended Polytechnic High School, a private school in his hometown, where he played football and served as class president. He majored in Biology at Amherst College in Massachusetts, graduating in 1980 before transferring to USC School of Medicine. After getting his PhD in 1984, Pinsky worked as a resident at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, where he eventually became chief resident and later opened a private practice.

He should know better......

I used to listed to his radio show many years ago when he used to give out good advice. Then he got into TV and started chasing ambulances trying to cash in by imposing himself on other people’s misery where it wasn’t welcome. Many of the things he tried to do were in the worst sort of interest to those affected. It was all about him making money with zero regard for those in weak moments.

It was about then I decided the guy was really a complete shitstain. Nothing he says should be taken seriously by anyone.
