That's according to a U.S. News and World Report poll that shows Gov. Andy Beshear in the top spot among governors nationally with a score of 4.44 out of 5.
Breaking down the responses further: 86% said Beshear has been "good" or "excellent;" 9% were "neutral;" and 5% said his response to the pandemic is "poor" or "very poor."
In all, 64% of the 28,000 or so responses approved of the job their governor was doing. Fewer than 40% said the same about the federal government.
In case you have been ignoring social media, Beshear has become quite the sensation in Kentucky and even nationally. Multiple Facebook pages centered around social media memes surrounding the governor have popped up, and his 5 p.m. press briefings have become must-watch events for many Kentuckians (sometimes with a drink in hand).

I just wanna give props to my governor! Everyone loves him here. I've never seen so many Republicans compliment a Democratic politician. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency in Kentucky before Gov Cuomo in NY. Because of that, he's kept Kentucky's cases down. I think it's time that governors like Beshear and Newsom get credit for being ahead of the curve.

Like too many of our parents I watched a life long democrat swayed to republican by Fox News, Church, abortion and Mexicans.
But she loves her governor. Told me last night he should run for President. She thinks he is the best leader she has ever seen.

(509 posts)I think he's definitely got a big political life ahead of him. His 5pm press conferences have been must see TV.

(11,949 posts)His family is one of the oldest in Kentucky. Been there since the 1700s. And as Im assuming you know, in Kentucky that means a lot.
Bring governor of Kentucky might be where his ambition ends.
I hope not.

Makes me glad to hear, and very happy for Kentucky.
Gavin Newsom makes me proud and impresses me very much. California stays in good hands. Even my governor now, Kate Brown (HAH! Still have a Governor Brown!) has moments of magnificence, especially sending 140 ventilators to Andrew Cuomo.
Nice to know we have leaders to be proud of, on OUR side of the aisle.

(3,691 posts)He took aggressive action fast and Ky's number of cases and deaths are much lower than surrounding states, especially TN which hasn't done jack shit last time I looked. Newsom is doing an excellent job too and CA's case count reflects that.

(29,146 posts)they come. Kentucky is lucky to have a rational leader in the midst of this crisis rather than suffering under Matt Bevin. Hopefully this will mark a sea change in Kentucky politics. (I can dream, can't I?)

(3,282 posts)in WV was early to close schools and issue a stay at home order....but he has also come off as a bungling idiot in his addresses and his stay at home order was pretty toothless, which is why he's now having to issue new tougher orders in certain places. I predict that he will issue these orders statewide in the coming days. So, it's a pretty mixed bag for him. Hes still done a better job than Trump though.

(80,693 posts)ANYBODY's better than trump. Purportedly reformed conservative Max Boot thinks even our previous worst presidents are scraped off the bottom of the list to make room for this guy.
The worst president. Ever.

(110,900 posts)I imagine the people of KY are realizing they dodged a bullet when Beshear squeaked out his victory over the repellent Bevin. Beshear is actually trying to do something constructive.
Let's hope it gets through a lot of thick skulls there that they don't have to put up with McConnell, either.

(110,900 posts)The only way anybody would go to their dumbass meetings was if they held them in bars and even that didn't work after the first month or so.
What turned this state blue was getting 100% paper ballots. Boxes of absentee ballots still go "missing" in ted districts, but a few honest people there seem to find them every year.
I just hope KY can get rid of McConnell, even if they don't follow Deripaska's money and throw them both in jail. KY has an interesting history. They deserve better.

(11,996 posts)Our biggest problem is that just about every single order that we have out there for PPE, we get a call right when its supposed to be shipped and its typically the federal government has bought it, Beshear said during a Saturday press conference. Its very hard to buy things when the federal government is there and anytime they want to buy it, they get it first.
