I was on Z-packs and Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) - that stuff terrifies me (my opinion)

First of all, I acknowledge that those meds have saved lives but here's my story. . .

First of all, I have EDS (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) so a lot of meds are no-nos for me. I certainly can't have fluroquinolones (Cipro, Levequin) for fear of tearing tendons but Z-packs cause my heart to go crazy and when I was on Plaquenil (for other reasons), I was warned of retinal tears and I did have some eye problems which scared me (not retinal tears). The same goes for other "common" meds - birth control pills (I am Factor V positive) are out of the question, and flu shots (high risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome).

I'm NOT anti-vaxx or anti-meds -- oh boy do I have meds I take on a daily basis including Lithium (a savior for me as my body produces NONE) but none of the meds are without risk.

So rushing for a cure might be no cure at all. . .

Just my .02

True, but most people do have a certain amount of natural uptake from lithium in their food/water. eppur_se_muova Apr 2020 #4

I can see how lacking that ability to uptake lithium would have serious consequences. It was the correlation of mental disorders with low lithium levels in water that triggered the original medical interest in lithium.

That's quite difference from long-term use.

Take care.
