Two employees of one Walmart store in the Chicago area (2500 W. 95th St., near Western Avenue) have died after contracting the coronavirus. The company did not specify the timing of their illnesses, but said the store remains open after passing "necessary inspections," last week.
"While neither associate had been at the store in more than a week, we took action to reinforce our cleaning and sanitizing measures, which include a deep-cleaning of key areas of the store," according to Walmart spokesman Payton McCormick.
The two employees were both men, ages 48 and 51, with underlying medical conditions, according to a report from the Cook County medical examiners office. The 48-year-old man had diabetes while the 51-year-old man was morbidly obese, the office stated.
McCormick said the Evergreen Park store had passed a third-party safety and environmental compliance assessment, and a health department inspection within the past week. Walmart is bringing in an outside company to further clean and sanitize the store, and will take additional action as needed, he said.

(102,119 posts)masks, but only a handful (older) workers doing so. One manager (woman in late 20s) told me that Walmart had provided them, but it was THEIR choice. I told her in no uncertain terms that this reflects contempt and total lack of concern for the health of others since regular face masks offer minimal protection to the wearer, but considerable to those around them. I asked her if she had ever heard of asymptomatic carriers spreading from merely talking. She just looked at me with a dumb stare.
What arrogance these mega companies have.
